Share
[shoplink 23568][/shoplink] The link is here: http://dpreview.com/reviews/olympusep3/ They liked the new features a lot and almost a perfect PEN. Handling and autofocus are superb. The only real “problem” is the aging sensor. It doesn’t bring any real improvement over the [shoplink 18844]Olympus E-PL2[/shoplink]. The camera earns a Silver Award and an overalls core of 74%.

I am just reading the review and will update this post soon :)

The Silver E-P3 with 17mm lens is in Stock at BHphoto (Click here) and Amazon (Click here).

The next big feature. Panasonic and Olympus working on Global Shutter!

Share

The global shutter circuitry patented by Olympus (found via Egami)

A couple of days ago I told you via trusted sources that Panasonic has the plan to introduce the “global shutter” with the next GH3 camera. And not only Panasonic is working on it! Egami spotted an Olympus patent describing the noise reduction process on a sensor with global shutter. Global shutters can remove the typical effects from current sensors using the rolling shutter like exhibit smearing, skew, wobble, and partial exposure. Wikipedia explains it better: “Rolling shutter (also known as line scan) is a method of image acquisition in which each frame is recorded not from a snapshot of a single point in time, but rather by scanning across the frame either vertically or horizontally. In other words, not all parts of the image are recorded at exactly the same time, even though the whole frame is displayed at the same time during playback. This is in contrast with global shutter in which the entire frame is exposed for the same time window.”

According to Egami the Olympus global shutter sensor will also allow to have much sharper images (you can see an image comparison on their website).

This is a post for all our scuba readers ;)

The image on top shows the new waterhousing for the GF2 from Nauticam.

My shots have mostly been taken in Japan, Australia and Afrika (with some from Germany), using E-620, E-5 and E-PL1. I do nature and culture photography with some landscape work: http://www.focx.de

5) Mark: “I have a photo blog of images that are almost all taken with Panasonic 4/3rd’s cameras. I try to post a couple of new photos every week. www.mtoal.wordpress.com

6) Ashley:Saw you posted work done by other readers with m4/3 gear, specifically the GH2.  I’m a cinematographer outside of Austin, Texas and we almost exclusively use the Panasonic GH2 for our production needs.  Here’s an example of one such video shot on the GH2 for the John Newcombe Tennis Academy…  http://www.vimeo.com/22627848

7) Franco:Almost all photos were made with Olympus E-620, E-450, E-510 and E-410. www.francobuttiglieri.com

8) Mikko:A bit of shameless self-promotion, but as there were other people on A list of work done by our readers (using m43 gear!) doing the same I thought “what the heck”.
So. I’ve been shooting a GF1+20mm f1.7-combo exclusively since last november. Pics and words (in Finnish, sorry) at http://fotomik.blogspot.com/

To make these images I wander the quiet night, observing what light and shadow simultaneously reveal and conceal.  I have posted Crystal Silence on the crowd-funding site Kickstarter in order to raise the necessary funds to slowly drive across the United States to finish shooting this project.  I’d greatly appreciated you letting your readers know about my project. Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing and the deadline is coming up only one week from today! Crystal Silence on Kickstarter can be found here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/851167361/crystal-silence

13) Daniel:I have a blog where I only post pictures taken with [shoplink 14830]Olympus E-P2[/shoplink] and various lenses (that are tagged so you can see what lens I have used). You can at least take a look if you have some spare-time…http://pen2pix.blogspot.com/

14) Acahaya: “I took some C-AF sample shots of the Munich Eisbach Surfers with the E-P3 and kit lens/12mm. The link to the Flickr set is http://www.flickr.com/photos/hypselodoris/sets/72157627310042503/. The set description contains info about lication, settings and my conclusion.”

(FT5) GF7 announcement in December/January only. 45-175mm coming soon.

Share

A phantasy GF7 camera designed by Blog-Livedoor (based on the [shoplink 23692 ebay]L1 design[/shoplink])

According to our sources the GF7 announcement has been delayed at least until December (and could be also delayed to very early 2012). Sounds like Panasonic wants to present the camera at the PMA show in Las Vegas (January 8). We are not sure about the reason for the delay. The same sources do confirm that Panasonic will announce the new 45-175mm Micro Four Thirds lens by end of August/early September.

Reminder: The GF7 will be an advanced GF model with plenty of manual controls. The 45-175mm will be an ultra compact and cheap lens.
