The new Olympus 45mm f/1.8 lens gets previewed by Dpreview (Click here): “Even at F1.8 it is sharp enough to give plenty of detail in subjects’ eyes. Just as importantly, at sensible working distances, it gives a usefully shallow depth of field on the Four Thirds format and renders out-of-focus regions rather pleasantly

Dpreview confirms what other reviewers said before. This is simply an amazing lens for the price you have to pay for it. Well done Oly!

(FT2) New 45mm pancake from Panasonic coming?

Share

[shoplink 25538 ebay][/shoplink] The new Panasonic 45mm lens is rumored to have the size of that wonderfull [shoplink 25538 ebay]Pentax SMC DA 40mm f/2.8[/shoplink] limited pancake.

I got two rumors from new sources saying that there will be a new 45mm X pancake from Panasonic. According to one of the sources there are currently several prototypes of 90mm equivalent pancakes. What really makes me dreaming about that rumor is that the source said it has the size and style of the Pentax SMC DA 40mm f/2.8 limited pancake [shoplink 25538 ebay](Click here to see that lens on eBay)[/shoplink]. A second source said that the lens will be a X lens with powerzoom, have macro capability like the current [shoplink 14794 ebay]Panasonic 45mm f/2.8[/shoplink].. Sound slike a dream lens! If the lens comes for real than let’s hope Panasonic will not set an impossible price for it!

Reminder -> Rumors classification explained (FT= FourThirds):
FT1=1-20% chance the rumor is correct
FT2=21-40% chance the rumor is correct
FT3=41-60% chance the rumor is correct
FT4=61-80% chance the rumor is correct
FT5=81-99% chance the rumor is correct

Which new mirrorless camera from the competition is the “nicest” m43 competitor?

Share

After the Olympus PEN and Panasonic GF3 announcement in back in June we had three new mirrorless cameras from the competition.
I am now curious to hear which one caught your attention, which one is a camera you would love to see with a Micro Four Thirds mount! I added the Fuji X10 camera as option on the poll. It has a fixed lens but it’s certainly an interesting mirrorless camera!

What camera (from the competition) do you like more?

There are some interesting positive aspects on almost any I mentioned here: The [shoplink 25421]Fuji X10[/shoplink] controls, the [shoplink 25396]NEX-7[/shoplink] built-in OLED viewfinder, the Sony [shoplink 25423]NEX-5n[/shoplink] sensors. I left out the [shoplink 25424]NX200[/shoplink] because I really don’t know what to like about that camera!

P.S.: On Wednesday Nikon will announce their new mirrorless system!

Two more new Olympus VF-3 viewfinder reviews.

Share

ThePhoBlographer (Click here) tested the new [shoplink 25395]Olympus VF-3[/shoplink] viewfinder: “At the price point, you’re really much better off going for the [shoplink 25394]VF-2[/shoplink] for the quality. However, when it comes to ergonomical advantages, the VF-3 is the way to go, especially for the locking feature. With this said, the VF-3[/shoplink] is still quite good in terms of build quality and image quality, but if you’re a photographer that loves to shoot full frame, you’ll appreciate the VF-2′s brightness much more in a similar way to Full Frame vs APS-C DSLRs.

Also the german blog Pen and Tell (google translated) wrote a VF-2 versus VF-3 comparison.
