(FT4) New Olympus MFT and fast zoom on sale in Spring (no CP+ announcement).

Share

Private note first: The last three weeks I was busy because of family reasons. Finally I managed to reorganize my working day so that I can be 100% back on 43rumors. The last three days I had busy conversations with sources and they helped me a lot to get a clearer focus on the new product announcement roadmap. And if you feel that in these last three weeks I missed to post some of your work or reviews please mail me the links back at 43rumors@gmail.com. As you know I am doing all alone here on 43rumors and sometimes I need your understanding…thanks!

And now let’s talk about the next Olympus products. It’s months now that the I tell you something “different” and “new” is coming from Olympus. And that has been now confirmed by some of my sources. What I learned now is that Olympus will 100% market the new kind of camera in Spring. The real surprise is that they will not(!) announce it at the CP+ show yet but they opted for a later announcement. The reason is yet unknown, but from my parallel work on MirrorlessRumors I noticed a convergence of new product releases in late March-early April (new Canon EOS-M with integrated EVF, new NEX, and new Panasonic G5 successor). It may be casual…it may be not.

The new camera is rumored to have the new Epson 2,36 viewfinder and a new overall camera design. And there should be a fast zoom too (no, not the busted 50-150mm f/2.8 rumored lens).

And now back to the Cp+ show. Yes, there will be an Olympus product announcement but not for the new camera. More about that will come soon. And some Panasonic rumor too. So stay tuned on 43rumors!

Share

Olympus Japan officially announced that five new companies joined the Micro Four Thirds system: Blackmagic Design Ltd, JK Imaging Ltd, Photron Ltd, SVS-VISTEK GmbH, View Plus Inc.

Of course the most known company here is Blackmagic that already released a [shoplink 36264 ebay]videocamera with MFT mount (here)[/shoplink]. Another company that grabbed our attention last week is JK Imaging that will release a Kodak branded MFT camera by end of this year. Than we have Photron a Japanese High Speed camera maker. SVS-Vistek is a German develops cameras for the industry. And to finish View Plus is also a camera maker from Japan.

Amarcord: Olympus 35 SP

[shoplink 36258 ebay]

[/shoplink] We now know that Olympus will release a new Micro Four Thirds camera within the next 1-2 months. As they always took inspiration from the past let’s check back some of the Olympus historical cameras. Today I make a short intro to the is the [shoplink 36258 ebay]Olympus 35 SP[/shoplink].

Like so many Olympus cameras also that one marked a point in the camera history. Launched in 1969 it had a unique feature: It was the first Rangefinder camera with a dual metering system (spot or centerweighted readings). It has a high quality 42/1.7 fixed G.Zuiko lens. Yep, there is a “G” letter before the “Zuiko” because it refers to the seventh letter of the alphabet to signify the seven elements of the lens construction. And according to Andrew from UTexas: “It truly matches or surpasses many prime lens available today.“.

But there are many unique features on that camera. a controls (including exposure modes and timer) are on the lens!
Really, you have to read the wonderful written article at Utexas (Click here) to understand all the greatness on this jewel. One more interetsing article is also available at Cameraquest.

The camera itself is of course available on plenty of acutions on [shoplink 36258 ebay]eBay (Click ehre to see them)[/shoplink]. Great camera that (unlike all digital cameras) will likely work fine for all the rest of our long life :)

I fell in love with m43 when I got my GH2 in 2010 and since September I run my own litlle company. We shoot with “bigger” cameras now, but I am still in love with these great compact Pany cams!
I shot a short video that might be worth bein gshown on your site as an example of the capabilities of the new GH3 and the 25/50p 50mbps codec. Is the SLR magic 25mm f/0.95 better than the Nokton?

Share

Andrew Reid tweeted the first image comparing the new SLR Magic 25mm f/0.95 vs the Nokton 25mm f/0.95. I have to say the results of the SLR Magic lens are stunning! I already posted a similar comparison back in May (Click here to read that article). But the lens used by Andrew is the final production version that should come on market in February for $799. But there will be a special rebate at launch and the real price will be $649. That’s $550 less than the Voigtlander Nokton lens!

SLR Magic 12-36×50 ED Straight Spotting Scope lens (w/ hand grip) is now available on [shoplink 26994 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].
