(FT4) Panasonic announcement on October 10!

Share

an imaginary ultra-compact Panasonic camera. Not a real product! :)

According to one trusted source Panasonic will announce the new ultra compact camera next week on Thursday (October 10). The source didn’t share any details on the camera and new lenses yet. But we know from other sources that we can expect the following new stuff:

1) A new Panasonic GM1 very thin and small camera. Close to the Sony RX100MII in terms of size. No mechanical shutter at all. Body is made of magnesium with a leather finnish. It comes in total black, silver/black, silver/brown.
2) A new Panasonic 12-32mm compact zoom (non PZ). Even smaller than the current Panasonic X Vario PZ 14-42mm.
3) The new Nocticron 42,5mm f/1.2 lens will be in Store in December. I guess the price and final specs will be announced on October 10 too.
I can also confirm that there will be an Olympus announcement in October. More about that soon…

Stay tuned on 43rumors!
Ale.

Great picture collection from Magnum photographer Moises Saman. And guess what camera he uses for his work :)

Share

Wired.com (Click here) posted a large set of wonderful pictures from Magnum photographer Moises Saman. Moises is one of the leading conflict photographers of our time and recently shot stories in Afghanistan, Egypt, Iraq, Libya and Syria.

If you scroll down there is an Interview with the photographer. Obviously the most interesting part is when he tells about his work on field and the effects of that work on the people around him. That said it’s nice to see once again that REAL photographer don’t care about Full Frame vs MFT sensor size discussions, pixel peeping, high ISO noise characteristics and whatsoever. What matters is if the camera fulfills your very personal need. If it makes it easier for you to create a story that you want to tell. When asked about Color vs B/W photography he answers:

“Some specific stories I see in black and white. It can depend my mood, or the mood of the work. There’s no formula. I mostly work with an [shoplink 29074]Olympus OM-D E-M5[/shoplink] camera and almost always with just one 35mm F/2 lens (Editor’s note: I guess he means the [shoplink 34914]17mm f/1.8[/shoplink]). Technically speaking, I find black and white easier — you have more freedom. The picture doesn’t need to be perfect. With color, if the colors themselves are not strong then the image does not work. Black and white, on the other hand, gives you more leverage; you have more space to focus on the content, instead of composition or lighting.”

Nice to hear a Magnum photographer using the E-M5 (P.S.: Also the GX7 is now being used by M.Photogrpahers). The E-M5 definitely has a successful history which I do hope will continue with the E-M1 and the future E-M7 (E-M5 successor).

E-M1 test roundup.

Olympus OM-D E-M1 Demo Video from Jurek Ugarow on Vimeo.

There are many new E-M1 tests to link. First of all our reader Jurek made the video on top: “Here is a test video I did a few weeks back with an almost finished version(firmware 0.9) of the Olympus OM-D E-M1. Most of it was shot with the 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 ED M. Zuiko EZ and a few final shots with the Olympus 75mm f1.8 M. Zuiko Digital ED. All clips straight out of the camera.

The video quality of the E-m1 is certainly not one of the strenghts. That said it’s goo enough for most of us. And here are all other new tests and reviews: E-M1 hands-on review at Ayton. E-M1 review at PCmag. Hands-on at DC.watch. E-M1 test by Thomas Leuthard. Test by Steve Huff. Size comaprison by TheAaronLoy. Praxistest by Photoscala. Video illustrations comparing AF speed with MFT and FT lenses on E-M1 and E-3 at Onfoto.ru.

That’s it for now. I am back working on Olympus rumors now. I am 100% sure there will be an announcement in October!
