GH4 preorders will start in late March and shipment in late April!

We have finally some more reliable news about the GH4 availability. Preorders in US store will be accepted from late March. And actual worldwide shipment is scheduled for late April. Also BHphoto (Click here) confirms the final shipment date info while Amazon (Click here) still shares no detail on that.

Over at MirrorlessRumors I summed up the five possible reasons why Mirrorless struggles to become popular in North American and European countries. Amateur Photographer interviewed Mr. Sykes from Panasonic who explains the main problem was that companies were too much focused on trying to sell a certain volume instead of focusing on educate the customer about advantages of the new mirrorless cameras. That’s why Panasonic is “imploring photography journalists to conduct reviews of CSCs ‘against DSLRs’, rather than testing like with like.”

Last year mirrorlesss camera sales in UK dropped by 46,000 units. But there is also a good news reported by Sykes: “Compact system camera is now returning to a period of growth which is really pleasing“.

The Dutch friends from Pixelmania posted the second and larger part of their 25mm MFT lens comparison. And I couldn’t agree more with their conclusion:

All three deliver crisp images, have little distortion, and so on. Yes, the Voigtländer is slightly stronger, the cheaper Olympus, Panasonic sharper in the center, and so on and so forth. The big winner is in our opinion the MFT camera user can choose from three great 25mm lenses.

Steve Huff also posted the full Olympus lens review and writes:

I prefer the Olympus as I am not losing much at all over the Panasonic but I am gaining the small size, the nice price and the overall look that matches my other Olympus primes AS WELL as almost no CA issues. I could live with EITHER lens long-term.

Our reader “U-photo” made this useful size comparison between the 12-40mm PRO lens and the next PRO 40-150mm f/2.8 zoom. Big, but still less huge than f/2.8 tele zooms like the [shoplink 44875 ebay]Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 (FF) lens[/shoplink].

In less than one month the new Nocticron 42,mm f/1.2 lens will ship at Amazon (March 20) and BHphoto (mid March). And if you want to learn more about the lens DC.watch (google translation here) interviewed the team who designed the Panasonic Leica Nocticron lens. Focus is definitely on blur characteristics but there are also other interesting tidbits:

– Panasonic designed the lens and Leica approved it.
– If there is a demand Panasonic will do a Leica branded zoom lens too.
– During the development Panasonic also considered to make it faster (f/1.0) but the size was too big.
– Curiosity: When asked about a f/0.7 aperture Panasonic said that would be possible but very difficult to make
– If there is a demand for it Panasonic will make more lenses with aperture ring.
