One of my best sources told me that one of the Panasonic next MFT cameras will be an entry-level camera with 4K video. No details yet on specs and release. The next major photography event is the CP+ show in February so maybe it will be announced around that time…

UDPATE: And I got info about a second non-4K MFT cameras right now. Hope to get details about that one soon too…

Surflove:I recently had a few photos of Sydney’s summer storms featured in the news and papers. I used the Live Comp feature on the Olympus E-M1 to capture lightning and storm clouds. I believe it’s a great function to capture these things (and many others) and I wrote an extensive article about it on my blog on what it is, how it works and how it can be used: http://surflove.com.au/chasing-storms/ Not sure if it classifies as a ‘rumour’ but it definitely is a unique feature only found on a 43 sensor camera, which not so many people know about and even less actually use, so I thought I’d ask if you were interested in sharing it.

Many new info about Olympus present and future: They do not exclude to use larger sensors in future!

Bildschirmfoto 2014-12-15 um 10.26.40

DC.view posted am interview with Olympus. The highly interesting info have been translated by one of our readers:

1) PRO lenses, being weather-sealed and compact in size and weight, are designed to improve corner IQ by incorporating their microscope technology.

2) Sony’s (5 axis) technology is used on bigger sensors so we figure that the whole mechanism should be bigger as well. And its effect might be limited due to insufficient space for the mechanism to move. We think Olympus’s has better stabilization capability, especially at telephoto ends.

3) Future plans for in-body features? Improved 5-axis stabilization, among others. It’s still not perfect and we hope to improve that.

4) Any plan to design F2 constant aperture zooms? We aim to do faster lenses, but size and weight are our concern.

5) Any plan for a non-interchangeable lens camera with a 4/3 sensor? We don’t have a definite plan, but we don’t rule out the possibility.

6) Will Olympus stay in the 4/3 realm? As long as size and weight can stay compact without giving up IQ, it does not necessarily have to be 4/3 sensors. If there’s a way to keep the lenses small for larger sensors, we will not hesitate to do that.

So what do you think of those points?

Olympus 12mm F/2.0 Vs. Rokinon 12mm F/2.0 by Pier Yves.

Olympus 12mm Vs Samyang 12mm Video Test from Pier-Yves Menkhoff on Vimeo.

Pier Yves sent us the following Olympus 12mm F/2.0 Vs. Rokinon 12mm F/2.0 comparison:

Before everything, I would like to thank Hervé Danes for the loan of the Olympus 12mm F/2.0 lens. It was not possible with Olympus France. Jonathan Lang and Martina Beckman did not deign to answer to our request of loan. It was the same thing with Marc Rabuteau of Samyang France. This happens frequently in France !!!
In theory and often in practice, there is a difference of quality between a lens at 800 € and another one at 330 €. However, we are not in California. Where is the difference when you live in a gray city ? When we are in the rain in Lyon in winter ? Will we see a real difference ? The shot was made with a Panasonic DMC-GM1 camera on a tripod. I only alternated the lenses for each plan. Recording at 1 080p. No correction at the editing.
When we place side by side the Olympus 12mm F/2.0 and the Rokinon 12mm F/2.0 lenses, the difference is huge. The first is compact, the second is massive. Among the advantages of the Olympus, perfect aperture and autofocus synchronization with Olympus and Panasonic M43 cameras. We note a difference of framing between the two brands. Olympus offers a tighter framework. The Samyang present an alternative advantage: its price. Nearly half of the Olympus. But the difference has a cost. No electronic contact with the body of the camera. All controls are manual. Another aspect can be disabling for every user. The focus ring of the Rokinon lacks flexibility. It is firm. Very firm. The Olympus is dedicated to those for whom AF is a major asset.
At the light of the above pictures, you can decide whether to invest € 320 or € 799 for a 12mm F/2.0 lens. It’s up to you !!
Enjoy…

Olympus wants to launch world’s first Micro Four Thirds “Lens-Camera-Drone”!

Share

opc_project51

Olympus plans to make the first “Lens-Camera-Drone” it’s basically a Micro Four Thirds mount module with integrated sensor where you can attach the rotor on top. There are no info yet if that idea will ever make it into a real mass product. But so far the specs of the module are mentioned by Olympus itself:

Android ios
– 16 megapixel sensor. No info if it’s E-M1 (with PDAF) or E-M5 (without PDAF) alike.
– Connected by WiFi
– takes both stills and videos
Optical / digital zoom, configurable for various shooting parameters
Save Allowed still images in RAW or JPEG format
Micro Four Thirds mount

This could become the smallest drone ever made? Not sure yet that thing can fly really well :) There are other parts that have to be added to make it fly properly!
