If we had a sixth star in our rating system, the GH4 would get it. More than a simple technological showpiece, it’s a formidable, relentless tool that could serve any photographer or videographer with a sort of savage efficacy that appears to know no bounds. If the GH3 ever left any room for doubt, the GH4 does not: there’s no serious competition in the SLR and hybrid worlds, especially when it comes to video. To find any better, you’re looking at a five-digit budget. The GH4’s only real shortcoming? Perhaps a lack of soul…

Kai: “Just wanted to share a video I just created in Chicago, IL for Modern Luxury / CS Magazine, a fashion/travel/nightlife oriented large publication in the US.
This video was made using the Panasonic GH4 (bought via the great Vitaliy’s website personal-view.com), G6 and GH2 using all kinds of gears (steadicam merlin, manfrotto steadimodo, tripods & slider) & lenses over a period of a 6-day fashion photo/video shoot in the end of spring, to highlight some of the nightlife hotels/lounges in Chicago. Lenses used were Canon FD 50mm F1.4 (with and without RJ Lens Turbo), SLR Magic 25mm F0.95, Olympus 9-18mm, Panasonic 12-35mm F2.8, 20mm F1.7, 14 -140mm among others. Some footage was shoot at 4K on the GH4, some others at 1080p60/96/24 fps on GH4 or G6 or GH2 (with hack).

I’ve won quite a few awards using the Panasonic G/GH cameras in the past few years… such as PDN (Photo District News) Photo Annual in 2012, American Aperture Awards in 2013, and PDN Top Knots in 2012 & 2013. This goes to say that one doesn’t need to shoot with Canon cameras to be a professional these days.

Robin Wong. tested the Olympus 12-40mm lens:

If you have bought an OM-D system, and intend to have a high grade lens, just one lens to cover most of your shooting needs, this 12-40mm Pro lens should be in your consideration. It is versatile, does close up shooting well, and is sufficiently wide for most situations at 12mm focal length. That F2.8 bright constant aperture is also useful in many situations.

SLRgear tested the Panasonic 35-100mm X zoom and writes:

There’s a lot to like in the Panasonic 35-100mm ƒ/2.8: it’s super sharp and offers professional results at slightly less than you might pay for a comparable full-frame lens. Perhaps its most attractive feature is its slim frame, but then, that’s one of the chief selling points of the whole Micro Four-Thirds endeavor.
