(FT5) Olympus to ship a new 25mm f/1.2 lens by mid 2016!

[shoplink 56524 ebay]50mm12[/shoplink] Image on top shows the [shoplink 56524 ebay]OM 50mm f/1.2 lens (here on eBay)[/shoplink]

Our top sources confirmed Olympus will launch a new f/1.2 prime lens series. And today we can report with high accuracy that the first lens will be a new 25mm f/1.2 Zuiko PRO! It will ship by mid 2016. Price is yet not known and I am also not sure if Olympus will show the lens for the first time at the Cp+ show in late February.

A while ago our source “Simon” said Olympus did develop both f/1.0 and f/1.2 lenses. But did choose to produce the f/1.2 only:

Why ? The production cost for the f1.0 were double as for the f1.2. And the size was 43 % bigger and the wight 230g more. The f1.0 is around 620g. Don’t forget with two very quick & silent autofocus Engine. But we will see no f 1.0. it is the same Story like FT E-7 vs. MFT EM-1. and here it is a question of invest in more glas, what means more expensive + more wight. The diameter was 68mm. so to big and to haevy for mft . The autofocus of the New f1.2 is outstanding und works perfect together with the PEN F. 30 % quicker as EM-1 with the Same les.

Bit of history: Olympus OM system had two f/1.2 lenses: The [shoplink 56524 ebay]50mm f/1.2 (here on eBay)[/shoplink] and the [shoplink 56525 ebay]55mm f/1.2 (here on eBay)[/shoplink].

Tropischer Orchideenzauber – Blumengärten Hirschstetten (Christian Mari).

Anonymous:just for fun ;) This is what I imagined, with the help of a little photoshopping, a FourThirds 300 f4 might have looked like back in 2009. That dream never came to fruition but after 7 long years we finally have a 300 F4 for Microfourthirds! I think it has some similarities to the current lens, but I didn’t foresee the lens IS system…

JR:I would like to share my short action-comedy miniseries shot primarily with the GH4. In particular for Episode 1, we acquired a pair of massive Fujinon Cabrio Premier PL lenses, which allowed us to execute some very fun and retro crash zooms in addition to delivering tack-sharp, quality footage.

(FT4) One more Panasonic MFT announcement soon…

Share

Two sources confirmed that Panasonic will have a new MFT announcement within the next 4-6 weeks. I got no details yet but they said it’s not for a new GH or G series camera! I am working to get the details soon.

In the meantime answer this: what are you hoping to get from Panasonic?

Panasonic GX8 review at Dpreview:

Share

GX8_case_Jason_TP

Dpreview posted the full Panasonic GX8 review and writes:

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX8 is a impressive mirrorless camera that ticks most of the boxes that many enthusiasts are seeking. Its new 20MP sensor is impressive, Depth from Defocus AF system top-notch, and Dual IS system innovative. The camera’s touchscreen and Wi-Fi features are both well-implemented, and its weather-sealed body is solid.
Still shooters will need to decide whether having to use the electronic shutter to avoid blur is worth its potential trade-offs, while videographers who want to hook up an external mic or HDMI cable may not enjoy losing the flexibility of the camera’s rotating rear screen. It’s for these reasons – especially shutter shock – that we are unable to give the GX8 our highest award.
