(FT2) What if Simon was right and the new E-M1II is the first camea with Olympus 18 Megapixel geomembrane sensor?

Share

Geomembrane

Last year the well-known 43rumors commenter Simon said this about the new Olympus sensor designed for the E-M1II :

Olympus will NOT join the megapix. race. the new sensor will have 18 MP & a new “foil” on the sensor, they call it geomembrane (whatever this means), but the EM-DR (code name for E-M1II) will have a 10 step hires modus to make such fotos with 1/60 sec. out of hand. Great !!!

While Simon has yet to prove to be a reliable source I am wondering…what if the rumor is correct? Would you jump off the chair for happiness? :)

Olympus registered a new E-M1 camera (pretty sure it’s the E-M1II)

E-M1

The Indonesian public agency Sertifikasi registered a new “E-M1” Olympus camera for the commercialization on the Chinese market. This means the new camera is set to ship within 1-2 months. Note that this isn’t the already available E-M1 as this one got registered three years ago. This is the new mark II camera!

This is what we know so far about the E-M1II:

E-M1II specs from reliable sources:

Announcement on September 19
4K video (first Olympus camera with 4K)

Dual SD card slot
Handheld High Resolution mode
Much improved autofocus performance
new high-resolution EVF
Announcement at Photokina in September
It has no global shutter. But Olympus worked hard to reduce rolling shutter to a negligible level

E-M1II specs that still has to be confirmed by our reliable sources:

New Olympus designed and Sony produced sensor
The sensor is trimmed for maximal AF speed and very fast parallel signal output reading. The sensor reading is twice as fast than ont he current [shoplink 59394 ebay]Olympus PEN-F[/shoplink] Same E-M5II articulating display,
