GH5 sensor tested at DxOmark: “Best performer in the lineup”

Share

DxOmark tested the GH5 sensor. And unsuprising it has the best sensor of all Panasonic cameras yet:

Like its predecessor the GH4, there’s no doubt the Panasonic GH5 is oriented toward videographers, but there’s still plenty to like about the camera for stills use. In spite of the increase in pixel count to 20-MPix, noise remains at the same level as the earlier 16-Mpix GH4. Even when compared to the maker’s GX8 that uses a similar 20-MPix sensor, the GH5 has slightly improved dynamic range and color sensitivity.

New Laowa 7.5mm f/2 MFT lens reviews

The new Laowa 7.5mm lens will be in Stock on June 12 at BHphoto. It’s in Stock at Laowa store

We got a handful of new Laowa 7.5mm MFT lens reviews.

Cinema5D writes:

This lens is great for what it is. It’s really small and lightweight, and is a perfect option for a GH4 shooter like me. Would I take this lens with me on my next holiday? Yes, of course. It’s just great and handy. Would I use it on paying shoots, like music videos or commercials? Yes, if I needed a small camera to put in a confined space like a car, or if I wanted to have a camera ready on a light gimbal. I would probably not use it on my main setup, because I work with a Speed Booster that never leaves my camera. For those shoots, I’d probably use the Laowa 12mm full-frame lens.

Amin Sabet writes:

The Laowa 7.5mm f/2 is tiny, light, fast, relatively affordable, and is an excellent performer. I was supposed to send the review unit back, but I will be purchasing it instead. Disclosure: I am getting a 20% discount in purchasing the review lens copy.

Mirrorless system camera sales finally booming? +90% in sales compared to April 2016!

Share

CIPA released the shipment data for April 2017. And we have two good news:

  1. The camera market is doing better than in 2016
  2. In April 2017 mirrorless camera shipments were up +90% compared to April 2016. At the same time DSLR shipments went down by 11%

One reason could be also the good sales of the Panasonic Gh5. Panasonic stated multiple times the Gh5 sales were much higher than expected.

Panasonic announced a new High Dynamic Range Organic sensor

Share

Image Sensor World reports:

Panasonic publishes a paper in Japanese “Development of Simultaneous Capture Wide Dynamic Range Technology and Global Shutter Technology for Organic Photoconductive Film Image Sensor” describing, essentially, a way to control sensitivity on per pixel basis. It’s quite similar to the sensor presented at ISSCC 2017, but without the IR sensitivity.

It’s years now that Panasonic is developing the organic sensor technology with Fuji. I don’t think we will see this tech on MFT camera any time soon…
