Yi M1 review by Imaging Resource: “not to be recommended for most”

Share

Imaging Resource posted the full Yi M1 review. And it’s very rare nowadays to find reviewers that do not recommend buying a camera. Well, for Imaging Resource the Y1 M1 deserves that negative exception:

At the end of the day, I can only recommend that you purchase the YI M1 in two specific circumstances. You might want one if price is absolutely the most important thing for you, and yet you absolutely need a large sensor and an interchangeable-lens design. Or you might decide to buy it if you actually see the challenging “Stop, think, then stop and think again” experience of shooting with it as a positive thing — which indeed, some photographers may.

But for the average photographer, and especially for the entry-level customer it targets, I simply cannot recommend that you purchase the YI M1. Frankly speaking, you’d do better to defer a lens or accessory purchase, and put a bit more of your cash into buying your camera body instead. And if you can’t afford to do so, I’d suggest that you look for an older (but still recent) camera instead. You’ll get better photos with less fuss, and you’ll enjoy the shooting experience a whole lot more.

The YI M1 can be bought at Amazon US, Amazon DE, Amazon UK.

Adobe Reports Record Revenue. Aurora HDR 2018 reviews.

In the photography software world Adobe has a near monopoly. And they just reported they record quarterly revenue of $1.84 billion in its third quarter of fiscal year 2017. This is 26 percent year-over-year revenue growth (Full report here).

One of the smaller players trying somehow to compete with Adobe is Macphun. They just released the new Aurora HDR (preorder here) which comes for both Mac and Windows. You might give it a chance if you want to be “Adobe free”. Here are a few reviews of the new software:

Olympus E-M10 Mark III Unboxing

Share

Geekanoids unboxed the new E-m10III. And the French site Focus Numerique (google translation) posted their E-M10III review. This is their Pros and Cons List:

And there is also a review at Photographyblog:

While E-M10 Mark II owners won’t be rushing to upgrade (unless you really, really want 4K video), the new Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III is a solid, if rather unexciting, update of a camera design that a lot of people love, ourselves included, all at a very competitive price-point in today’s market. Highly Recommended!

Preorders:
Silver or Black E-M10III at GetOlympus, BHphoto, Adorama and Amazon. In Eu at WexUK and ParkUK.
E-M10III with kit lens at GetOlympus, BHphoto, Adorama and Amazon.
Special E-M10III superkit at Amazon and Adorama.
CS-51B Body Jacket for the E-M10III at BHphoto.

Chris Eyre Walker on Lenin Peak (7134m) in Kyrgyzstan with his E-M1II

Chris Eyre Walker just sent me this:

I recently spent 3 weeks on assignment for Olympus AU attempting to summit Lenin Peak (7134m) in Kyrgyzstan. My goal: find out if the E-M1 Mark II would perform at high altitude and in extreme weather conditions and if it would make for a suitable expedition camera to extreme environments.

Part II: https://youtu.be/cPCkaTKbGmE

(entirely filmed on the E-M1 Mark II and with the 12-100mm f/4 IS PRO)
Also here the in depth Blog Article and my new Lightroom Preset Pack based of the shots of this expedition.
