Panasonic Leica 50-200mm Review by Darryl Carey and Lenstip

Share

Leica 50-200mm lens at BHphoto, Adorama, Amazon, Panasonic.

The new Panasonic Leica 50-200mm is finally shipping out and here is a review from Darryl Carey:

And Lenstip also tested this lens:

The list of pros of the Panasonic Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 50–200 mm f/2.8–4 ASPH. is really long; in order to be honest I have to admit these two cons I added a bit by force because they aren’t serious flaws at all. The weight and physical dimensions are additional assets of the tested lens, especially if you compare them to respective dimensions of its full frame 100-400 mm rivals. This device is really small and handy and I was able to appreciate it running up and down the hills of Faroe Islands. What’s more, its good aperture fastness allows you to attach it to a teleconverter without lowering the results and I mean here every system body available. You cannot say the same thing about slower 100-400 mm lenses.

(FT4) Insider info about the GH5 development and future

Share
I got some insights info about the GH5 development:
– There are prototypes of the GH5 running the same photo enhancements as the G9. Panasonic is unsure whether this will be a paid or free update, if they launch a GH5+ or if this features will be only available to G9.
– There is an internal fight of the product managers: Hybrid means by the GH5 PM that it should have the best features in both areas  and not only in video. So maybe this means also the end of the traditional GH series. It would mean that maybe in next releases we see G Line as the photo tool and a new line as primary video.
– While the GH5 hit all expectations in terms of video share it wasn’t sold in numbers in the photo sector.  That’s why they launched the new G9. There is a huge discussions marketing wise why GH5 was only positioned as the video beast.
