Olympus interview at IR: “Sensors are coming close to the physical limit”

Share

There is a new Olympus interview at Imaging Resource. Most of the talk was about the new E-M1II, But Mr.Haruo Ogawa gave us a couple of “extra” interesting info:

  1. He expects that in five years the new Olympus cameras will be four times more powerful than the E-M1II (you need this for 8K for example)
  2. When asked if  sensors can improve in terms of noise and sensitivity or if we are very close to physical limits he answers: “I think that now [regarding] the noise level, we are coming close to the physical limit.”

So it looks current sensor technology doesn’t allow major leaps forward. But I am pretty sure new things will happen in the future. Something like three layer sensors, graphene sensors and so on could still give us major improvements.
