At last folks the long wait is over! Panasonic launched this teaser for a September 12 announcement. And the teaser is super clear with their hints:

  • This is a Micro Four Thirds “G” camera
  • the “new phase” means this will be Panasonic first MFT camera with phase detection AF
  • Announcement on September 12 at 22:00 Peking time (That’s 3pm London time).

Damn am I happy we can finally do some proper exciting rumor/news work for Micro Fou Thirds!!!

Panasonic confirms that they have no imminent plan to offer 8K on their cameras

At the Photo & Imaging 2023 event in China Panasonic managers said that demand of 8K on digital cameras is very weak and therefore you should not expect 8K to be implemented any time soon. This likely means that the S1H and the GH6 successor will both NOT have 8K recording.

If you remember back in 2017 Panasonic promised to launch an 8K MFT camera by 2020. Well, we might have to wait til the second half od this decade before this might happen :(

Some wild GH7 camera and OM1 firmware rumors

Our reader Finitas sent me this:

Trustworthy German blogger mentioned that a Panasonic GH7 might be out this year. He said it would be the only MFT camera coming out this year.
A firmware 1.6 for OMDS OM-1 and later a 2.0 with new functions could also come this year.

No idea who this blogger is…but I hope he is right :)
