As you know Samyang often design Full Frame DSLR lenses and then offers it in different mounts like Four Thirds and Micro Four Thirds. It’s not really the best solution for us because it makes the lens unnecessarily bigger. But on the other hand their lenses do deliver a very high optical performance for a very low price.
So it’s good to know that they will soon announce a new 135mm f/2.0 lens and you can read specs and see more images of the lens on [shoplink 50596 ebay]that eBay Hong Kong page (Click here)[/shoplink].
The Korean Agency RRA registered a new and yet unannounced Panasonic GF7 model. The camera is likely to be announced at the CP+ show in February. And all I know for now is that it’s not going to have 4K recording. This means that in early February we will get at least two new MFT cameras. The Olympus E-M5II and the Panasonic GF7. Note that also the GX7 (Click here) and G6 (Click here) are marked as discontinued…

So far we know the E-M5 MarkII will be released the first week of February, feature the same E-m5 16 MP sensor, and have a new up to 40 megapixel (8 single shot combined) sensor shift function. For those interested on the enw video features of the camer well this is what it’s “rumored” to have:
– It does have clean hdmi-out
– all common frame rates and video optimized af-algorithm.
– 50Mb/s all
– no 4K recording
A good improvement over the E-M5 video functions. Maybe Olympus will add 4K on the next E-M1 successor….

The current “official” Olympus road,ap doesn’t include a wide prime lens info…yet.
A very good source shared an info about an upcoming new Olympus 8mm f/1.8 fisheye lens. It will be announed in early 2015 and ship in summer. No info on price yet.

Side by Side Image Comparison: Full Frame DSLR vs Micro Four-Thirds Mirrorless
January 06, 2015 in Gadgets and Gear
Yesterday, I posted this side by side comparison to Facebook as a simple test. One image was captured with a full frame DSLR and a professional quality lens totaling approximately $2400. The other was shot with a small mirrorless camera with a micro 4/3 sensor and a prime lens totaling $899. Both were captured in RAW on a tripod with the exact same camera settings and auto white balance. They were imported into Lightroom and were not sharpened or adjusted in any way, only saved for the web.
As you can see, the results were quite similar, making it quite challenging to determine which is which. This was further proven by the variety of guesses from the Twitter and FB communities. Some were able to see the difference, while others couldn’t. Now, I’ll reveal the camera types.
Do the results surprise you?
Here’s a larger view of each image.

My take on it
Considering that an entry level Olympus with a micro 4/3 sensor can actually compete with a full frame DSLR on image quality, I believe a major shift is coming to the industry sooner rather than later. Yes there will definitely be pixel-peepers who dispute that. This is not for them, but rather to help YOU find the best tool for your specific needs. Do you want to spend an extra $1500 and carry more weight or would you be better off with this alternative?
The images out of the mirrorless have more than enough resolution for publication, web, and print enlargements. Granted, the 6D definitely offers better detail at larger print sizes. Still, at a fraction of the weight and price, one has to really determine what their priorities are. For travel, scenic, everyday work, the OMD EM-10 has repeatedly proven its worth. In addition to the excellent files one can capture with it, the functionality is actually superior in my opinion with more focus points, EVF, to name a few. Having said that, I still reach for the DSLR for sports, wildlife, and aviation. I feel the AI Servo and instantaneous response are more conducive for high-speed situations. Yet with advances in mirrorless technology and a wider selection of available lenses, I do wonder how much longer that will be the case.
As I previously mentioned Olympus will announce also two new compact cameras. The name has been registered a couple of days after the E-M5II registration. am sure the E-M5II will be announced at CP+. Don’t know yet if the compact cameras will be announced today at CES.
Those are not MFT cameras but I got this from a trusted source and maybe someone cares about it :)
Olympus will soon announce two new compact and fixed lens cameras: The TG-4 and SH-70. Don’t know if they will announce it at CES already or wait til CP+- My guess is that it’s coming at CES.
The E-M5II will be announced at CP+! Now working to get info on the new Panasonic MFT camera(s)…
