(FT4) Update on the GX8 rumor: Announcement in September and not in May/June.

gx7

I have an update and correction on the GX7 successor rumor. Seems like the announcement will take place in September and not in May/June. A sources mixed up the announcement date with another camera…yes there is likely “something else” coming from Panasonic in May!

(FT3) Organic sensor: Panasonic in charge of production in change of Fuji’s technology.

A “source” at DChome reports that Panasonic is in charge of production of the new organic sensor while Fuji will offer the full technology knowledge in exchange. But we still don’t know when the first organic sensor will find their way in Mass Production MFT cameras…

Reminder:
On paper the new Organic sensor has the following advantages over conventional sensors:
1) it has only 1/6 of the thickness of the current sensors
2) Increased Dynamic range of 88dB
3) 1,2 ISO stops more sensitive
4) range of incident angles of 60 degrees, efficiently utilizing light entering at an angle for faithful color reproduction with no color mixing. It also gives greater flexibility in lens designs, facilitating the reduction of overall camera size.

(FT4) Olympus 7-14mm PRO lens should start shipping in June.

7-14mmPRO

Last week I reported that Olympus added the 7-14mm f/2.8 PRO lens on their Four Thirds Group Mathcing Simulator page (Click here). Two of our sources told us that Olympus plans to release the lens at around June. This means you can preorder it at that time while the lens will ship in late July-early August (differs from region to region). The lens is already listed at BHphoto (Click here).

(FT3) There may be a new Sigma 24mm f/2.8 ART DN lens in September.

Sigma 30mm MFT lens by DSLRmagazine

Sigma Rumors got a hint about Sigma’s next lens for mirrorless system cameras. In September Sigma could launch the 24mm f/2.8 ART DN which as usual with those lenses should come in all possible mounts including Micro Four Thirds.

Currently Sigma already offers three MFT lenses:

These are not very fast primes but they are cheap and deliver a very good optical quality.

Mitakon 42.5mm f/1.2 Review at Photographyblog.

[shoplink 51695 ebay][/shoplink]

Photographyblog (Click here) posted the full review of the [shoplink 51695 ebay]Zhongyi Mitakon 42.5mm f/1.2[/shoplink] MFT lens and writes:

In terms of image quality, the lens creates some nice bokeh effects when shooting wide open at f/1.2, creating an attractive dreamy look, but you really need to stop down to f/4 to get critically sharp results in the centre of the frame, with the edges slightly worse. This lack of sharpness may actually be a plus-point for portrait shooters who want a more romantic look – just make sure that the image quality fits your particular bill. Chromatic aberrations are commendably almost completely absent, but vignetting is pretty bad at f/1.2, not disappearing completely until f/4.

Overall PB prefers the similar priced [shoplink 51696 ebay]Olympus 45mm f/1.8 lens[/shoplink] unless you really need the faster aperture.

You can buy the lens on [shoplink 51695 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].
