(FT5) Surprise! Olympus will very soon announce a new E-M10II camera!!!

E_M10II

Surprise! The 16 months old E-M10 is going to be replaced very soon! The new E-M10II has been already registered at the Indonesian agency Postel. Usually this means the camera will be announced within weeks or 1-2 months at max!

This means there is really no rumor pause this summer because also Panasonic has an announcement this month!

(FT3) Panasonic FZ300 specs: Sony 4/3 sensor, clean 4K readout and 24-400mm Leica lens.

Two months ago Panasonic registered three new camera names: G7, GX8 and FZ300. The G7 has been announced, the GX8 will be announced around September but it’s still unclear when Panasonic will announce the FZ300. And recently an anonymous source sent me some info about that camera:

FZ 1000 MKII (or FZ300) will be released in September. It will feature a different approach from the FZ 1000 MK I in that according to my source, it will feature a 24-400 leica lens, F1.8 – F4, with F1.8 up to 30mm, and at 200mm F 2.8.
Also, it will have a mic input, 4K video full sensor readout clean (no crop), and the biggest news is this will feature the Sony 4/3 sensor.
Capacitive touchscreen, articulating LCD, and 2.36m EVF.
Styling will be radically different too however I do not have these details.
The price will be $1499 USD.

I have yet no clue if those specs are correct or not. But if they are this sounds like a hell of an amazing camera!

Very wild rumors: Did Panasonic make the new Nikon D5 4K Full Frame sensor?

D5

an imaginary new Nikon D5 FF camera by Photo.net.

This is a very wild rumor but if true it means Panasonic is really going into a new territory: Nikonrumors says the next Nikon D5 Full Frame camera will feature a 20 megapixel Full Frame sensor , have native(!) 102,400 ISO and 4K video recording. And his wild guess is that it’s made by the Panasonic owned Socionext company:

Socionext is a new company established by the consolidation of the system LSI businesses of Fujitsu Limited and Panasonic Corporation. It has a track record of development and delivery of products for various video applications. Socionext is now sampling 4K HEVC real-time encoder MB86M31. Together with MN2WS03101A, the company will support total video solution for a wide range of applications.

If true that means Panasonic has access to new Full Frame sensor tech. maybe it’s something they could use for a future “Macro Four Thirds” Full Frame system :)

P:S.: pdf file of Socionext newly announced sensor can be found here: socionext.com/en/pr/sn_pr20150527_01e.pdf

(FT3) Olympus 300mm f/4.0 lens release got delayed because of in lens stabilization addition.

PRO-300mm

I just got this from an anonymous source:

Olympus considers to make the new 300mm f/4 PRO lens with OIS, to complement IBIS in Olympus bodies (which is less effective at really long focal lengths) and also be attractive for Panasonic users.
I know, it is the first for Olympus, but then it is going to be very specialized, and they have decided than without Panasonic user market it would not have enough sales to pay to its development, and that was the cause of its delay.
Lens construction is 17 elements in 10 groups, 2 SuperED elements, internal focusing.

Well, I guess that this makes a lot of sense. In lens IBIS for a telephoto lens is a must have feature. And indeed Egami spotted the official 300mm f/4.0 PRO IS lens design patent:

Thanks source for sharing this!

P.S.: The lens is still listed at BHphoto.

(FT4) There is likely one more Panasonic announcement in July! Telephoto lens coming?

There is a fair chance that Panasonic will have one more product announcement in July already! We may see the new Panasonic Telephoto lens and the new FZ300. But that is yet not confirmed by trusted sources.

Good news for you and bad news, will have to work during my vacation too :(

Great! Sigma patent discloses a new 35mm f/2.0 ART OS lens designed purely for Micro Four Thirds!

Sigma_30mm_Art

For the first time Sigma patented a lens purely designed for the Micro Four Thirds mount. It’s a new 35mm f/2.0 ART lens! It comes with optical stabilization too. Total length of the lens is 5,77 cm.

This would become the very first MFT “Only” designed Sigma lens. Currently Sigma design their mirrorless lenses for both APS-C and Four Thirds sensor mirrorless system. This makes the MFT lens version bigger than actually needed. So let’s hope this one will become real soon!

E-M1 will get further firmware updates to make it remain the top model over the E-M5II.

I got this from a source:

Two filmmakers who sat down with a group of officials from Olympus “xxxx”. They said, the M5 mii would be a first and that they are waiting for the response from user, they also made it very clear that the M1 would remain their top model and that upcoming (firmware) updates will also make it very clear that the M1 is the first choice for video as well. 4K will be coming in the foreseeable future they are aware of the need for it, wether in a new model or via firmware, they did not state.

Makes a lot of sense to me.
