Voigtländer Nokton 25mm f/0.95 Hands-on Review (Digitalrev)

Kai Wong from Digitalrev tested my favorite Micro Four Thirds lens, the Voigtländer Nokton 25mm f/0.95! In my opinion the Nokton is one of these lenses that has that magical “WoW-factor” and can convince people to join the MFT system. Of course it’s difficoult to focus when you are in hurry. But sport or action photography is not what the lens was build for. It’s also a very cheap lens if you consider the high build and image quality. You want something better? Be prepared to pay over 9.000 Euro for the [shoplink 22726 ebay]Leica Noctilux 50mm f/0.95[/shoplink]!

Where can you get the lens? Here are some links for US and EU readers. Notice that the cheapest price I found in Europe is in France!!! Don’t know why, but they are 150 Euro cheaper than the rest of Europe!

US:
BHphoto (Not in Stock yet), Cameraquest (not in Stock), [shoplink 22723 ebay]Caxa[/shoplink] (ebay seller from Riga but ships worldwide), [shoplink 22724 ebay]infoto2[/shoplink] (ships worldwide), [shoplink 22725 ebay]fotomundus (worldwide)[/shoplink].

Europe:
Amazon France (749 Euro), Lapetiteboutiquephoto (749 Euro), [shoplink 22126 ebay]infoto2[/shoplink](ebay), [shoplink 22722 ebay]Fotomundus (ebay)[/shoplink].

Panasonic G3 review at Digitialcamerareview!

[shoplink 22077][/shoplink] The new [shoplink 22077]Panasonic G3[/shoplink] have been tested at Digitalcamerareview (Click here). With 4.5/5 starts it has become an “Editor’s choice” camera: “With DSLRs being my camera of choice (and reading glasses now a way of life for close up work), I tend to appreciate viewfinders all the more. So it comes as no surprise that the G3 is my clear favorite mirrorless to date.”…”
AF performance beats a compact and rivals an entry level DSLR, even when working in dimmer conditions. Shutter lag subjectively seems a bit slow, but our stopwatch objectively says otherwise. High ISO noise performance leaves compacts in the dust and gets in the ballpark with the current generation DSLRs. Video performance is among the best I’ve seen in a still camera.

Those are the pros and cns of the camera according to the reviewer:

Pros
Small size and weight
Very good still images
Excellent video

Cons
Low battery life
Slow flash recycle
Entry-level DSLR price

Yes, looks like Panasonic has a real winner here!

New Panasonic GH2 review at Quesabesde (US: Panasonic GH2 in Stock status)

Quesabesde reviewed the Panasonic GH2. The biggest complain they have is the lack of a headphone output that allows to monitor the incoming audio from the camera. But all thre rest of the review is very positive. The Gh2 is the best hybrid video/still camera on the market. And it will become even better once it gets hacked! Click here to follow the official GH2 “Stalin” hack development topic.

And now for US readers: Announced in September 2010 the Panasonic GH2 is finally “constantly” in Stock in US stores by late May 2011 (it took 8 months):

Black GH2 with 14-140mm lens at Amazon (Click here) and Adorama (Click here).
Black GH2 with 14-42mm lens at Adorama (Click here).
Silver GH2 with 14-42mm lens at Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here).

P.S: Panasonic Lumix 100-300mm for $540 at Amazon (Click here).

Panasonic G3 beats the GH2 at High ISO, but has lower DR. (+ GH2 US stock status)

That was fast! You can already see the G3 sensor performance test results at DxOmark (Click here). Overall the Gh2 is still a bit better (reminder, we are talking about the RAW sensor performance). But at high ISO the G3 beats the GH2 with a very small advantage!

Obviously the GH2 is a much better camera when it comes to handling and video quality! But the G3 is really a nice camera if you consider that it is considerably cheaper. If you don’t want to wait to much before to get the G3 you should preorder now by clicking those direct links:
In US: Amazon, Adorama, J&R.
In Europe: Amazon UK, Amazon DE.

And as I told you yesterday US readers can finally buy the GH2 because it is in Stock!
Right now eight black GH2+14-42mm kits are in Stock at Amazon US (Click here).
Two silver GH2- 14-42mm kits are in Stock at Amazon US (Click here).
And all GH2 kits will be in Stock on May 31 at J&R (Click here).
