Full Olympus E-M10 test at Dpreview and DxOmark who says the camera is a “Mini marvel”!

Dpreview (Click here) posted the full E-M10 in depth review. The camera earns the Gold Award with a 80% overall score. And I particularly like that part of their conclusion:

The E-M10 is truly an impressive little camera. It holds its own against entry-level DSLRs in terms of image quality and handling, and beats them all in terms of direct control.

And DxOmark (Click here) tested the sensor and writes that overall the camera is a “mini marvel“!

It really brings it to the point! Great camera! And now Olympus, let’s bring some new PEN too :)

Nocticron beats the Fuji 56mm in terms of optical performance (says Admiringlight)

On top you can watch the Leica Nocticron 42,5mm f/1.2 lens video review made by frugalfilmmakers. But the big question of the moment is, can the lens beat the optical performance of the $600 cheaper Fuji 56mm f/1.2 lens? Both lenses have been released at about the same time, both have the same f/1.2 speed at the same focal length (85mm FF equivalent). While the Nocticorn is much more expensive it also has a built-in lens stabilization (the Fuji has not) and a faster AF performance. Admiringlight had the lucky chance to test both lenses at the same time and writes:

  • Wide open, the Panasonic Leica has notably higher contrast straight out of camera.  It really has remarkable contrast for an f/1.2 lens. You can process the Fuji images with a simple contrast adjustment in post to match this, but it doesn’t get that high contrast pop until about f/2.2 straight out of camera.
  • The Fuji exhibits some spherical aberration wide open, which may show as a glow with high contrast subjects such as white text on a black background.  The Panasonic Leica exhibits extremely minimal spherical aberration.
  • While both lenses can show some Longitudinal CA at wide apertures, the Nocticron displays it much more readily.   High contrast areas immediately in front and behind the focus point display as a magenta or green fringe.  Still, both lenses do a decent job in this department considering the speed.
  • Price.  Here’s it’a s huge win for the Fuji, coming in at $999 vs. the $1599 of the Nocticron.  You do get optical image stabilization with the Leica, but I’m not sure that makes up the full $600 difference between the two lenses.

So overall the Panasonic wins the performance test. But it’s up to you to judge if that edge in performance, the in lens IS and faster AF are worth the $600 price difference. Be sure to read the full review at Admiringlight to learn more about the lenses!

Nocticron test by LLoyd Chambers: “It’s a must have lens”

The fastest lens on the smallest MFT camera (Courtesy of Mark Baber).

Well known reviewer Lloyd Chambers is testing the Leica Nocticron and writes:

The superlative rendering style of the 42.5mm f/1.2 is evident. If there is a must-have lens for Micro Four Thirds, this is it.

I am pretty sure many 43rumors readers would love to buy the lens but I think most agree here when I say the lens is a little bit too expensive. You can get the lens for $1599 at Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here) and at BHphoto (Click here).

First GH4 vs GH3 high iso comparison. And 4K video available for download!

SLRlounge (Click here) is the first website posting a GH4 versus GH3 High ISO comparison:

Overall, there is a clear improvement in the GH4 low light, high ISO performance when it comes to shooting jpegs. So, based on my first impression, Panasonic took what’s great about the GH3, from the ergonomic to the video quality, and improved just about everything. The new sensor produces noticeably better image quality especially in low light, the EVF and LCD are vastly improved, and of course, the headliner is the 4K video output, which we will cover more in-depth in the near future.

Bestmirrorlesscamerareviews posted a short GH4 hands-on article which also includes original 4K video for download at Google Drive (Click here).

Panasonic 15mm and 35-100mm hands-on. New Nocticron review.

ePhotozine had the pleasure to “play” a bit with the Leica 15mm f/1.7 and Panasonic 35-100mm lenses. But still no image samples or price info yet :(

Meantime Hardwarezone tested the superb Nocticron 42,5mm f/1.2 lens:

At an eye-wateringly US$1,599, the Panasonic Leica DG Nocticron 42.5mm f/1.2 ASPH is really either a specialist lens for the professional or a nice addition to the library for the well-heeled. No matter what, it’s a decidedly great lens; well-made, with excellent optics and the brightest lens in the Micro Four Thirds stable with auto-focus. This is one lens that’s going to be a classic.

The Nocticron is in Stock at Adorama (Click here) and at BHphoto (Click here).
