Good and bad news: 0 shock dramatically improves the E-P5 image quality. But feature is not coming to the E-M5 :(

The test performed by Dpreview.

Our source (Thank You!) were right and the E-P5 now got the 0 shock feature via firmware update. The bad news is that the same source said there is no E-M5 firmware update coming any time soon. This means no 0 anti shock feature coming for E-M5 camera owners yet.

In the meantime Dpreview already tested the zero shock feature of the E-P5 and writes:

e haven’t done any real-world shooting with this yet, but our test shots suggest it’s very effective at reducing image shake at the ‘danger’ speeds. The blurring that’s visible in the first image below is reduced by enabling 0 sec anti-shock. The mode adds a very subtle delay to the shutter response, but one measured in miliseconds. We see no reason not to ensure ‘0 Sec Anti-Shock’ is always applied – resolving the issue outlined in our original review.

Great news for all E-P5 owners!

Triple Olympus 25mm f/1.8 lens review.

Lenstip writes:

The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 25 mm f/1.8 complements their offer nicely, being a very interesting alternative to both the Panasonic 1.7/20 and the more expensive Leica 1.4/25.

Camerastuffreview writes:

Already at full opening, the sharpness is high from the corner to corner. You don’t often find that with bright lenses. On the Olympus website, the Olympus 25 mm f/1.8 is praised as an indispensable lens. For photographers with a preference for an affordable, compact, light and qualitatively high standard lens, Olympus is right. The only disadvantage that I can think of was that the lens is not extra well sealed against dust and splash water

A few thoughts about the Olympus 25/1.8 by Duncan Martin.

Time will tell if the Olympus 25 has any negative aspects which bite me in the backside, but so far I’m feeling positive.

Full GH4 review by TheCameraStore TV (with Gh4 production camera).

The CameraStoreTV team testes a production GH4 and posted that final impression video. Definitely worth to watch! And CameraLabs also posted plenty of video and image samples.

Editor’s note: Some people did complain that I talk to much about the GH4 lately. Well guys, this is the only new MFT cameras we got the last 6 months and the only new camera to come is the E-Pl7 (with same E-M10 specs). So there is really not a lot to talk about on the Olympus side. And the GH4 is really a unique camera it’s really interesting (at leats for me) to talk about. But this will change soon guys, within the next couple of weeks I will start with the Photokina rumor work. And there will be some surprises :)

New GH4 reviews and tests. Potential audio issue (and possible fix).

Panasonic GH4 96fps Tricking from Giulio Calisse on Vimeo.

The video on top shows how much fun some people has with the GH4 for 96fps shooting :) But now back to “serious” GH4 reviews and a first issue report:

PocketLint published the GH4 review and rated it with the full 5 stars:

The GH4 sees the GH series finally land with a bang. It’s not a budget device, but there are points of brilliance throughout all its important areas. It’s really the best-in-class video mode that makes the GH4 one serious camera to be reckoned with. It’s no longer so much “compact system vs DSLR”, it’s about which camera is best, and the GH4 ticks so many boxes it’ll be known as one of the best cameras to arrive in 2014.

Also Camera.Reviewed tested the Gh4 and says:

When you start to compare the GH4 to professional video and cinema cameras. On its own, this new Lumix is a more capable, more impressive package than anything else for under $2,000. It’s flexible, adaptable, and riggable to accomplish whatever you might need it to. Nothing else for the money offers such a well-thought-out feature set or a quality no-compromises interface.

First GH4 issue:
As usual with early buyers once you start testing the GH4 camera you will find some quirks :) Sol.M discovered that: “There appears to be a potentially severe audio issue with the GH4.  There’s a discussion here, where I’ve also uploaded an example: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?323353-audio-bug-discovered&p=1986435983&viewfull=1#post1986435983. Dvxuser TheTrickster seems to have found the solution to get rid of the noise:

I was listening to the noise (as I was testing more mics here) while the mode was in ‘M’ mode, I then moved the mode dial around to M-Movie and the hum disappeared….”

The good news is that it’s almost imperceptible and Panasonic engineers are already investigating the small issue (see their facebook repsonse).

Gh4 opinions and first impressions video, test footage and 4k frame grabs at Stronzvanderploeg.

Twills:Here is a video I shot with the GH4 at the Ring of Fire Climbing competition at the Central Rock Watertown climbing gym in Massachusetts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DYfnPhxD8A. The video was shot entirely with the GH4. I used the 4K @ 30 FPS mode for most clips. However, there was some 1080p @ 60 FPS and 1080p @ 96 FPS used for the slow motion. I even used the 4K @ 30 FPS for one of the slow motion shots. Can you tell which one? Ironically my GH4 was not the only one there. I looked to my right and someone else had setup a GH4 on a tripod with a manual focus Canon lens. The operator of the camera had no idea how to work it at all. I tried to help him at least put it in 4K mode but he insisted that the lowest resolution was all he would need because it was just for web use only. Seemed like an awful waste of a 4K camera to me. I wonder how many people bought the GH4 just to say they had a 4K camera even though they never intended to use it?””

Filippo:Nothing special video, it’s only a simple preliminary test. http://vimeo.com/94621566. The GH4 is an amazing camera: great 4K images, 96 fps in full HD, cheap, manageable. Thanks to the M 4/3 mount, you can use fantastic dedicated Lumix lenses, cinema lenses and a lot of other photographic lenses. The batteries are incredible (the same of the GH3) and the SD cards are very cheap. Panasonic has improved both the electronic viewfinder and the three-inch vari-angle screen (the VF is really great). One of the best cameras for run and gun quality works (expecially with Lumix lenses), reportages, etc… and don’t forget that it’s also a good photogrphic camera.

Small surprise: New Voigtlander 25mm II lens shows small improvements in sharpness and contrast (ePhotozine).

ePhotozine reviewed the new II version of the popular Voigtlander Nokton 25mm f/0.95 lens. And there seems to be a small surprise as there is a small Image Quality improvement too:

This sample also appears to offer improvements in sharpness and contrast over the copy of the first version we tested some time ago. Whether this is down to natural variation between lens samples, or improvements to the optical construction is difficult to say at this point, without having a few of each lens version to test and compare.

The lens is in Stock at Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here).

GH4 video quality makes the Canon 5DmarkIII look very very old.

Well, it may be that many of you don’t care about 4K yet but the GH4 will may let you change your mind about it. The image on top shows you how mind-blowing good the quality of the Gh4 video is. The Blackmagic Cinema Pocket and the Canon 5DmarkIII are nowhere near to the GH4. The Gh4 has astonishing resolution and zero moiree. The test has been made by Camera Zone and you can see their full review here below:

GH4 4K Shootout vs BMPCC vs 5D MarkIII from Camera Zone on Vimeo.

You know it well, I wasn’t a fan of the “3D hype”. But the “4K hype” makes much more sense to me! And the early owner reviews on Amazon’s GH4 site (Click here) are also all very positive!
