Panasonic GH4 audio background noise test.

Before to panic I have to say that the audio test you can hear on top has been boosted to display the issue. In any normal recording condition you will not notice the issue at all! So this is just for “audio-peepers”.

Suggestionofmotion posted that video on top to show the background audio issue on the GH4:

It’s common knowledge that camera preamps are not the highest quality to begin with. The best practice is to set the in-camera audio gain as low as possible to keep the camera from introducing noise.
Now instead of just noise, we also have a buzz to contend with in the GH4. Just like noise, the buzz is always there regardless of gain level.
At the same time, like noise, if you set the gain as low as possible and feed the camera a strong audio signal, the buzz is buried pretty well.

The good news is 1) In no real word recording condition you will notice that and 2) Panasonic is already working to fix this (Source: Facebook). So unlike Suggestionofmotion I do not see that as a serious issue. TheDingo at DVXuserforum answered to that video test:

When I first heard about this audio buzz issue I was a bit worried about the audio quality of the GH4, but the more I hear about it, I am becoming convinced this is people listening to the actual noise-floor of the camera, which is something that would NEVER happen if you have all your audio ducks in a row.

So don’t worry guys!

Its all about finding ways to tripod mount micro4/3 lenses which I have been working on for some time, its particularly relevant to people shooting with the GH3 and GH4 with battery grip. I am also working on a Metabones Speadbooster tripod collar that also will work with the GH4 and grip.

EVF Viewfinder Options:
For shooters wanting to take the ultimate advantage of the exceptional EVF in the E-M10, the renowned 180º Enhanced Viewfinder or the excellent 45º Enhanced Viewfinder are available. It is easy to change these viewfinders and no tools are required.

Michael: “I have been testing the Oly E-M1, Fuji X-T1, and now the Lumix GH4 to decide which I want as my alternative system to my 1Dx birding set-up. After my testing with the other 2, after my first test shoot with the GH4, I have decided that the Gh4 meets my needs the best. Image quality, while not nearly as good as the Fuji, is more than sufficient for my need when I will be shooting this camera. I have lots of experience with the GH3, but was not happy with the IQ. The GH4 (based on this one shoot so far) seems to have a smoother grain pattern, that makes all of the difference for me. And I love the UI and ergonomics of the GH3/4 over the others. Here is ny first shoot gallery with a full range of ISOs. I edited the RAW files to look like GH3 files in the meta-data so that Lightroom would read them. LR adjustments are limited to tone and clarity. Default sharpening on all of them and no NR except for the final shot that has Luminance=20. Here is the gallery…

The funnist GH4 unboxing video to date by Peter Gregg (and great AF test).

Whenever a new camera gets shipped you will find plenty of unboxing videos on youtube. But the one posted by Peter Gregg really beats them all :)
Watch the video above to see “His performance” and the very interesting AF test in complete darkness. It shows you an “Untold” aspect of the GH4 camera. It’s likely the best System Camera for low light focusing too! Peter also posted a 4K video sample you can see on Youtube.

Meantime Photoreview Australia tested the GH4 and writes:

From the start we felt the GH4 could be the most significant camera Panasonic has released so far, and after using it for almost two weeks we believe it will be a genuine game-changer. Not only is it a superior performer for still image capture, but to offer such a wide range of video options – many of them meeting professional requirements – puts the icing on an already attractive cake and takes the camera into areas we could only dream about previously.
