Olympus interview by DSLRmagazine: “We do not plan to make Tilt Shift lenses or a video oriented camera line.”

terada
General Manager Marketing Mr. Toshiyuki Terada interviewed by DSLRmagazine at the CP + 2016

The Spanish site DSLRmagazine (translation here) posted the content of the interview with Olympus managers:

  1. The PEN-F sensor does not have Phase AF because the target user for the camera doesn’t need that
  2. Olympus also said they have no plan yet to make Tilt Shift lenses
  3. All future long tele lenses from Olympus are likely to have in lens stabilization
  4. Olympus does not have a video oriented line like the Panasonic GH because they are more focuses on the classic photography world

Panasonic: “optical lens stabilization is superior”.

uematsu
Mr. Uematsu explaining the limits of displacement sensor for stabilization in the body

The Spanish site DSLRmagazine (google translation here) interviewed Panasonic manager Uematsu. And here are some key info he shared:

  1. Unlike Olympus Panasonic says that optical stabilization is still superior as on sensor stabilization can only correct around 1% of the shifting. That’s enough for wide-angle lenses but not enough for tele lenses. With “extreme” tele lenses you would need a sensor that can shift 20% of its size!
  2. For this reason, Panasonic plans to continue implementing, despite its cost, optical stabilization in all those objectives that actually exceed the 25 mm focal length.
  3. The reason why they added in sensor stabilization on the GX8 is that they understand the value of stabilization with legacy lenses
  4. Panasonic recognizes there is a demand for more “classic” camera with direct controls (like the [shoplink 58613 ebay]Fuji X100[/shoplink] or [shoplink 58303 ebay]PEN-F[/shoplink]).
  5. Panasonic admits that they had to go above 16MP because of pure “marketing” request.

There is a new mirrorless competition from Sigma

SigmaSA

There is one very surprising announcement made today by Sigma. They announced two new mirrorless system camera with Sigma SA mount. Now we got a new competitor although it’s strange they are using their DSLR mount for the new system. This also puts a definite end to the possibility of Sigma to join the MFT system with a Sigma branded camera.

Full details about the new system can be found at Mirrorlessrumors.
