I think that demonstrate how good the 4K Photo Modus already is helps to encourage more people to use it. Hopefully we will see more phantastic photos from the new Lumix 4K cameras. Valentino:The clip below was entirely shot with the E-M5 MK2 and the zuiko 25mm f1.8. Arrangement is done in fcpx with no further processing. Mostly shot handheld and and with autofocus, sometimes on a monopod. Everything done with the available light on our location. It shows the behind the scenes in a professional accessory fashion shooting in Bangkok. I think it should give you a very good overview of the OMD E-M5 mk2 capabilities. We are generally happy with it for this purpose. Have fun watching and please subscribe if you like! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqe5jHyJNLU. If you have questions feel free to leave them in the comments.

Patent shows Panasonic innovative “Micro Color Splitters” Sensor.

Bildschirmfoto 2015-05-03 um 12.28.33
As you know Sigma’s Foveon tech uses three vertically aligned layers to capture the full RGB color info on every pixel. But so far the tech has many drawbacks (like noise ISO at medium and high ISO).

But Panasonic proposes a new kind of tech that promises to solve those issues. The three RGB layers are aligned differently. One in “normal” horizontal position and two are aligned vertically on the side of each pixel area. A so-called “Color separation filter array” splits the RGB light and sends it in different direction. Panasonic says that there is almost no loss of information when the light passes through the horizontal layer to get to the two vertical layers.

The patent is a detailed description of the “Micro Color Splitters” Sensor we saw two years ago:

The new technique allows to “approximately double the color sensitivity in comparison with conventional sensors that use color filters.“. The trick to achieve that is the complete removal of the color filters that “usually block 50 – 70% of the incoming light before it even reaches the sensor“. Full description of the tech can be read here: http://panasonic.co.jp/corp/news/official.data/data.dir/2013/02/en130204-6/en130204-6.html

The digital camera market crisis could be finally over?

Bildschirmfoto 2015-08-09 um 14.29.42

Lats week Olympus issued a financial report and for the first time it was not losing money in their digital camera business! And it seems like this could be a “gobal” trend. For the first time in years the June 2015 camera unit sales were not much worse than the previous year (June 2014). We may have reached the bottom of the bottle where sales will no more drop compared to the previous year?

Samyang announced their new “XEEN” Cine lens line. And the first three Micro Four Thirds lenses can be preordered at BHphoto:
Rokinon Xeen 24mm T1.5 Lens (Click here).
Rokinon Xeen 50mm T1.5 Lens (Click here).
Rokinon Xeen 85mm T1.5 Lens (Click here).

UPDATE: Preorders are up at Adorama too (Click here).

A first hands-on review of the lenses can be read at Explora (Click here):

I found the Rokinon XEEN Cine Lenses to be well made, easy to work with, and overall I enjoyed the image quality. They rendered naturalistic images with good contrast and a pleasing, slightly warm feel. Intercutting between the lenses required no additional color correction beyond applying the same LUT to the footage. It is my preference to shoot more closed down than wide open, and I did feel the lenses performed best starting around T4, but I was still satisfied with footage shot at T1.5. Overall, I was pleased with the XEEN lenses and look forward to working with them again.
