Quick thoughts on the OM Digital release…a missed opportunity or a glimpse of hope?

We now know that the OM-1II will be a slightly improved OM-1. And that the 150-600mm lens will be a MFT version of the original Sigma 150-600mm Full Frame lens. In this video I shared my thoughts. But in short:

Positive note:

  • At least after one year we are getting something new
  • We are getting three “new” products
  • We are getting a new lens roadmap

Negative note:

  • OM-1II improvements are very minor
  • 150-600mm lens has unnecessary weight and size because of the original Full Frame design
  • Putting an extra $700 price tag on a re-branded Sigma FF lens is disappointing

What do you think?

a bit of everything…

New release: Topaz GigaPixel 7

Topaz just released the new Gigapixel 7 (Click here). I personally use it ALL the time to upscale my old images or images taken with my smartphone.

Major changes:

  • Updated AI engine which should allow better compatibility and faster processing
  • Added Standard and High Fidelity v2 models
    • These models will eventually replace v1 models in time. If you have quality issues, please let us know.
  • Refreshed the UI with new design and controls
  • Updated preferences with new options
    • Note: This will fully reset your preferences

Notable additions:

  • Added panning and pinch to zoom gestures in preview
  • Added updated RAW preview handling (should be closer to Photo AI)
  • Added ability to capture before/after in split and side by side views
  • Added ability to move the file list up and down via dragging
    • Note: There is a known issue where removing/adding images causes it to snap back to the default position
  • Changed logic for selections
  • Changed controls to show mixed states if multiple images with different values are selected
