Features the dpreview users want from the upcoming Olympus micro four thirds

A few days ago I asked the preview forum users which features they want to
see for the upcoming micro four thirds from Olympus.

I tried to filter and group the value.

There are some points of interest we should take into consideration:

1) First of all the users seem to focus more on lenses than on the Olympus camera
itself. Almost every user gave different zoom or primes specs. 10 users
asked explicitly for more Zuiko lenses and a lot of users gave their
lens wishlist. 10 guys desired prime lenses and pancakes.

2) Video capabilities seem to be less important. This might show us
that Olympus users are more focused on making photos than canonusers ;)

3) The users want EVF and some want the EVF positioned like a rangefinder.

4) Body IS, weatherproof camera and hot shoes are also requested.

These are not scientific results, but it can give you a small idea of what Olympus people want.

If this were a scientific study it would have used a larger sample size of more web communities.

YES, I would like the compact Olympus m4/3 camera, shown last year, as well as the pancake 1.7 /20 mm announced by Panasonic.
BUT, I want also the following features, that are missing in the above list:
    1) an “extra optical zoom”, that is a software feature known from nearly all Panasonic cameras, so that I could use with the help of the 20 mm objective also 35 mm (though with reduced resolution),
    2) an optical view-finder with frames for 20 and 35 mm; it should be collapsible (!) and could be pluged into the accessory shoe of the camera.

    Late comer :)

Why everyone want EVF? Why olympus (or someone) can’t OPTICAL ZOOM viewfinder, like that in canon G series?

While Canon made it eons ago, Oly can’t, even in next year?

Second .. that brain-retart filter size. Please, please, please.

Last, and worst. No one use lens hood anymore?

“w heater sealing”? I had to think about that for a bit before I realized that was meant to say “weather-sealing”

  • – Olympus User as still intersting in CANON video capabilities (H264, progressive with at least 50/60 images/s allowing slow motion using specific Software (twixtor) see :http://vimeo.com/15823375)

    – Olympus pen shall introduce the tilting screen on the EP3, EPL3 such as the one existing on Sony (A65 for instance, alowing rotation)

    – Minature effect seems to be a little bit less funny that the GFX from panasonic

Hoping the EP4, EPL4 will introduce these features…
