The Panasonic GF3 gets “dpreviewed” -> and talks about the GF7 ;)

The detailed Panasonic GF3 test has just been posted at Dpreview (Click here): “The GF3 is a camera that combines high image quality and access to advanced shooting options with a small form factor and simplified control layout. Enthusiasts may be disappointed with the relative paucity of direct controls, but the GF3 is a very easy to use camera that is capable of lovely images.”
The very interesting part is that Dpreview now started to talk about the GF7 (that’s the name we from 43rumors got form our sources): “This being said, given that Panasonic’s chief rivals (Olympus and Sony) have either released or at least talked about producing a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera targeted to the enthusiast market, we wouldn’t be surprised if Panasonic has similar plans. One could even argue that in positioning the GF3 so unambiguously as an upgrade for compact camera users, Panasonic creates a gap in its G-series lineup waiting to be filled by just such a camera.”
You can get the GF3 right now at Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay (Click on shop names).
P.S.: You can also play with te GF3 vs E-PL3 vs NEX-C3 studio comparison (Click here).

10 months ago |Um….not exactly a review that makes me want to run right out to the store and buy one!!!! Seems as though for the moment everyone likes the new Olympus sensor much more than this one.
So WHEN is the GF7 coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ?????????????????
Panasonic hopefully will have some surprises with that I hope.
I would like them to offer the GF7 with the Olympus 12mm f/2 as a kit lens!

10 months ago |Agreed, the E-PL3′s comparison photos look fantastic! When switched to the E-P3′s shot (which should be nearly identical) it looks horrible. They don’t mention which lens was used for the E-PL3, but they use an adapted 50mm for the E-P3. In this instance, I have a feeling we are more looking at lens performance more than sensor/processor performance.

10 months ago |What are you talking about? They look as close to identical as possible to me. Where do you see any difference?

10 months ago |DPReview always use the ZD 50mm macro for studio testing of 4/3 dslrs and m4/3 cameras. Any difference in the studio shots is down to the bodies.
For other brands they use similar quality prime lenses. Optics are thus taken out of the comparison as much as possible.

10 months ago |What the GF-3 should be afraid of is the E-PM1, same sensor/processor as the E-PL3 but likely priced the same or less than the GF-3. The E-PL3 rules up to ISO 800 and looks very credible (though not matching) compared to the NEX-C3 at ISO 1600. Now if only DPR would put up a comparison with the E-PL3 sharpening and color saturation knocked down a bit.

10 months ago |The point of GF3 is be a camera with just one button “Take a nice picture” and some semi-decent sensor and optic to provide that.

10 months ago |That is correct…that is the market this camera is directed at.

10 months ago |The GF1 was my favourite camera from Pana when it came out, making the GF series quite exciting for me. I was disappointed when they came out with the GF2, and the GF3 is pretty much going in that same direction.

10 months ago |Hopefully, the GF7 will remind us all of where we wanted the GF1 to go. Panasonic felt that the market ($) for the GF line was in smaller and simpler, and they were probably right. Now, it seems that they’ve also realized there’s another market for a GF1-sized package with more control, more features, and better performance. That’s what the type of people (myself included) who take the time to post on these types of blogs want. However, we all need to realize that we are probably a much smaller group, in this case, so we have to wait a little longer than the rest.

10 months ago |yeah….I have been holding steady with my GF1….Maybe the GF7 will be the natural progression of the GF series for people who bought the GF1.
