Black and Silver Panasonic GH2 in Stock at Adorama (+ Panasonic bad financial results)
Five months (!) after the GH2 announcement Adorama is having the Black Panasonic GH2 in Stock (Click here). Also the Silver Panasonic GH2 (Click here) is in Stock. Also Amazon will soon have the Silver GH2 in Stock (Click here).
The five months delay may explains why Panasonics digital camera sales have fallen across all three fiscal quarters by 8.6% over the previous year (Source: Photoscala). We not only need good cameras, we also need to buy them within a reasonable time frame!

2 years ago |ops…my bad….
this is something to be worried…
“With the exception of the Panasonic GH-1, the Four-Thirds category (darker green) has not made much progress so far. The GH-2 even has a marginally lower score than its predecessor. This reflects a slight increase in the GH-2′s (resolution-normalized) noise under both high- and low-lighting conditions.”
i wish 4/3 got better..my G1 was a joy to use with the exception on the sensor..

2 years ago |This is not something to be worried for users. It just reflects the fact that from the start, the MFT sensors already were about as highly optimized for their size as they could be.
Note that the DxOMark score about which the Luminous Landscape author was writing claims to reflect sensor performance only; what we are seeing now is that the sensors are about as good as they can be under current technology, while image processing is improving via more powerful chips and better algorithms.
In other words, there is more than one path to progress, and the manufacturers naturally are taking whichever path is least constrained at the moment.

2 years ago |Despite what DxO measures, the high ISO images of the GH2 (raw or jpeg) are much more usable than those from the predecessor. I would call that progress.

I vaguely remember (I’m not a gamer) one of the xbox or playstation launches missed its classic Nov/Dec timing and launched in Feb after Christmas!

2 years ago |Yes, I have no idea why Panasonic is so bad at delivering what they introduce. It’s the same with the GF2.

2 years ago |Just got a tracking number for my GH2 14-140mm kit.
I got the lens for $471.
Now about the sensor.
The revolution of the gh2 is not as much the sensor but the processing engine.
With the evolution of mobile dsp and cpu that is where the best progress will be.
The low noise “good looking noise” of gh2 is mainly because of the noise reduction processing. The same is valid for the superior video quality.
The way the processor down samples 16mgpixels is why VIdeo looks great on GH2.
Not how good the sensor is.
About the size of the sensor and the amount of light:
I believe you are wrong. LARGE SENSOR NEEDS MORE LIGHT. SMALLER SENSORS CAN WORK WITH LESS LIGHT.

2 years ago |This is bad news for those of us who love these LUMIX cameras. It is obvious that something is going on with their ability to deliver announced products on time. This is good news only for the competition… Al

2 years ago |BTW, I was just looking at my records for example of Panasonic’s revenue shortfall. I place an order for the GH2 with the 14-140 lens plus the 14mm lens with Amazon on 10/20/09. I became very disappointed in the continuing delays. At one time I canceled my order and ordered from PricePros through Amazon, and that order got canceled. I then gave up and bought a used hackable GH1 and second hand lenses. Panasoninc lost my money by not delivering. BTW, I am very happy with the GH1, and saving of nearly $1,000… Al

I am amazed from the lack of availibilty of the GH2 abroad. Here is my story.
Since you successfully convinced me that the GH2 is my camera
, I went to buy one last week.
I live in Japan, in Tokushima, which it is a small city in a rural area (rural Japan is veeeery different from Tokyo). I went to Kitamura,
http://shop.kitamura.jp/GoodsPg/126604
a large camera shop chain, but to a very small branch near my house. They had a GH2 on display, and I asked for one with the 14-140 lens, expecting that they take my order and ask me to come back next week or so.
But the guy of the shop said “Sure, great camera, black or silver?”. I said black, he looked under the counter, and took mine with 14-140 out. I looked over, and I saw that he had at least another six of them, also with 14-42, black and silver.
I was quite amazed! Since I also wanted to have the 14mm pancake, I asked for it. He looked, he had only the 20mm, but he said “I’ll order it, please come tomorrow”. Three hours later he called me, and said “I found one, please come and pick it up”.
The typical customers of that shop are older people that buy point and shoot cameras for their Europe trip, or mothers having photo albums of their daughters. Here in Tokushima everything is rather slow and comfortable, and nothing close to Tokyo Akibahara. The potential GH2 user is quite rare here, I guess.
Therefore I ask myself why is Panasonic delivering well even in the smallest part of Japan, and not the largest online shops in Europa and US.
Well, I guess they have their good reasons to do that.
By the way, the camera with 14mm pancake and two 8GB SanDisk Class 10 SD cards costed around 150.000 Yen, about 1.350 EUR, substantially less than Europe.
But, just a little tiny detail: the camera menus are in Japanese *only*! (I can read it, so is no problem for me)
Sorry for the long post, keep rollin’ with the site—

2 years ago |The problem is their best cameras are hard to find. I’ve never seen a GH1 or obviously a GH2 at say Best Buy or Futureshop. And yet they have the 7D, , 60D, and T2i, which all take away sales from the GH series. Olympus is the same deal. I just see E-PL1s there. Not so with the NEX. I see both NEX-3s and NEX-5s at most of these electronic stores. The only thing I see are G2s and G10s. Those have a much harder time competing.

2 years ago |This must be their last gasp to try and get some sales before the T3i/600D comes out next week. But by not selling the body only (or even the 14-140 kit) Pany is still shooting themselves in the foot and losing sales.

2 years ago |The recession hits many companies, and Panasonic is not an exception. Look, for example, at the Nikon’s 2011 Q3 financial results. Income for Q3s is down 6% compared to the previous year, despite of the sales increase (mostly due to the compacts).

2 years ago |FWIW, I ordered a Black GH2 w/ 14-42 lens yesterday while Adorama said they were in stock. It shipped this morning. Their site showed the Black one in stock for nearly an hour after I ordered and still shows the silver one in stock today. Some of our local retail camera stores in the USA have them. Ritz Camera has stores all over the country under the Ritz and Wolf name and many of their stores have the GH2 in stock. It was in stock on their web site all of last week and finally disappeared off their site a couple days ago. There is a supply shortage for sure, same with the Nikon D7000, but I think anyone can find them if they really look. Avoid Amazon and some of the larger e-sellers, they have a backorder list a mile long.
This is my third GH2 — we’re using them for some stills work, but mostly for video alongside Sony EX and RED cameras. Picked up one from a local retailer a while back. The second was bought first week of January from B&H — I just called them and got lucky as they had just received a shipment and had one or two extra. Then Adorama yesterday.
