Fuji comes out with their ALL SINGLE VOCAL LENSES,.-no zoom [,and no need power zoom ] it proof to me how much they understand the serious market/more enthusiasm.
For me I guess I don’t need to upgrade my GF1 but just to buy a Fuji who understand photography need than panny or oly,..[shame they never thought like fuji].
I believe they are many camera user who really attempt to buy /swicth to Fuji X pro,.

Had no estimate of when they would be in stock or ship. Figured though that it’s a no-risk placeholder in which, based on the X100 experience, will be a very long line.

An updated Pana 20mm with the same optics, faster autofocus, more direct manual focus and an aperture ring would be killer (weather sealed for the new high end cameras too).
Mr. Reeee
5 months ago |We’ll respond to Panasonic and Olympus’ lack of response by buying Voigtländer lenses!
There are plenty of older manual primes to tide us over until P&O figure out what we really want…
Using lenses with aperture rings is so much easier than twiddling buttons and little wheels to change f-stops!

5 months ago |Speaking of which, all current lenses have a focus-by-wire ring that sleeps when on AF mode.
Why can’t it then not be programmable to be configurable to the user’s taste?
…You would get Aperture by wire right there if you like!
bean5y
5 months ago |A function ring! That sounds like a good idea! You could increase the rate at which it changes focus distance and set it to a stop-less aperture when you’re using AF. For some reason I’d still rather two rings and the setup I described before.

5 months ago |Any recommendations for 40-50mm equiv. f/2 legacy glass? My OM 24mm f/2.8 is not very appealing on my GF-1. My OM 50mm f/1.4 is very impressive though, but it’s too long as a standard.

If they do that, it would do well on my NEX-7.
Even if they don’t, I might kill the 20′s shell/electronics to make it truly MF to use on the NEX and such.

i would like to have the 9-18mm, 25mm f/1.4, 14-42mm X, and 100-300mm @ $250
oh i want that 90mm f/2 macro too, Oly. make it $500, small, fast AF, weather sealed is okay.
and drop that EPL3 body to $300 too, i’m okay with the old sensor. i’m not too picky
or i’ll jump ship when the Fuji start to hit $300 for the body and kit lenses.

5 months ago |PhotoRumors is showing the weight and measurements of the three new Fuji lenses. It has me very interested if true, especially the Fuji 35mm 1.4 (52mm eq). Which is shown as weighing only 187 grammes, my Pana/Leica 25mm 1.4 (50mm eq.) weighs in at 525 grammes!! Can’t wait.

5 months ago |I owned a GF1 for 2 years and a half now and I’m happy with it (beautiful little camera), but I do lots of pictures with my friends in low light situations and moving subjects. I have to say, even wiht Lightroom I miss 2 or 3 stops to be really pleased (my girlfriend has a Nikon D90, I must admit it’s a damn good sensor but it’s too big to be used every day). I’m disappointed the GH2 or GX1 can’t equal this sensor yet.
So I’m curious to see what will this Fuji bring. It looks like it will beat FF sensors “only” at low iso sharpness, not high iso (too bad if it’s true). And I like my m43 lenses (20 1.7, 45 1.8, 7-14, 14-42x, 14-45, 45-200, I got every need covered). The Fuji line seems well thought and if they bring really good IQ at high ISO, small lenses and a WA lens (as my 7-14), I may fall for it.
I thought the lenses would be overpriced, good news: it doesn’t look that way.
Anayway, 2012 will be the mirrorless year and I think we all have to wait and see (Canon, Fuji, Pana, Oly… as I don’t expect anything from Sony & Samsung) and moreover : save money !!!
And by the way, thanks admin for your everyday news!
Barry
5 months ago |Wow – the lenses are really heavy compared to the m43. 12/2, 20/.17 and 45/1.8!!!
They are almost DsLR heavy!
katy
5 months ago |Not the 35mm 1.4 compared to my 25mm 1.4. The Fuji weighs less!
Eric
5 months ago |The Fuji 35mm f/1.4 should be compared to the Panasonic 25mm f/1.4 if you’re trying to do an apples to apples comparison. Those two are very similar in size. Also, at only 4oz and measuring 2.5×1.6″ I wouldn’t exactly call the 18mm a large/heavy lens. It’s more than small enough for me.
The Fuji X Pro body itself however is almost exactly the same size as a Leica M9, so that might turn off some. I personally think that is an ideal size (It’s worked for Leica for 70 years after all), but I’m sure some will complain its not the size of a GF3.

5 months ago |Fuji is hitting the right niche. Why compete with low end or DSLR? They’d be playing catchup. They are going after the artists and serious photographers who like to shoot with quality primes in a small, relatively discrete setup. This move makes a lot of sense.
If their sensor is as good as claimed, I’ll have to think hard about my gear. It would mean being able to use the X1Pro along side a DSLR for certain events.

5 months ago |I pre-ordered, but I don’t believe the pre-ordered. Amazon has done this before. These pre-orders will be canceled, and the lenses will launch at a higher price, is my guess. Fuji did this with the X100 — leak a lower price, and launch at higher. And Amazon has done this before — taken pre-orders and then canceled them. At the very least, other places (uniquephoto, adorama, B&H) will be shipping these looooong before Amazon itself does (though you’ll be able to get one of these lenses from Willoughby’s via Amazon for like $1,000!).

I was too fast when I ordered GX 1 + EVF2+ Leica DG 25 F1.4,. And turn out to be Dissapointed as an upgrade from GF1. AF is great ,. Rear dial feel very cheap compare to GF1 / E-P3,.. Touchscreen ,. I dont need it,. Somehow image quality I prefer GF 1 more Crisp over GX1 on good light condition,.. GX1 has better high ISO,.. EVF2 much better than EVF1,. But of course more money,..
Now comparing Price
GX 1 + EVF2+Leica DG25 f1.4= 700+ 250+600= 1550 >< FUJI X PRO1+ 35 F 1.4 = 1300 or +500 =1800 but you have much better quality overal and Hybrid OVF/ EVF.

5 months ago |I’m the one who has been counseling restrained enthusiasm (many of you will NOT like using a Contax G-style viewfinder in the long term, no matter how cool the camera looks) but I have to admit that the control layout looks really appealing — clear, functional and straightforward, like the Epson R-D 1 that I still use sparingly but enthusiastically.
Too bad the max finder magnification is only 0.6x and that the 60mm lens is so slow. (You say that’s just because it’s a macro; I say it’s because of accuracy limitations of the non-TTL AF system, just as the Contax G’s AF system limited its 90mm lens to a maximum aperture of f/2.8.)
Anyway, at least this gives me one reason to look forward to Monday for a change! I hope THAT rumor won’t turn out to be a red herring!
Vivek
5 months ago |Compared to the Contax G- Ranger:
EVF/Live-view: this allows any lens to be hung on the cam and focus accurately (albeit manually).
Also, it isn’t clear if a CDAF option is there or not. It will be shocking if it isn’t, given the liveview!

Sure, it looks cool and the control layout looks okay, but having tried and been resoundingly UNimpressed by the X100, I hope Fuji is using the opportunity to release a substantial upgrade with much improved usability. A version 2.0? At least v.1.5!
A camera like this begs for lens adaptors! So, until those appear, it’ll look like just another proprietary lens mount and format. A big ho-hum!
Oh yea, and until some actual image quality tests appear it’ll remain nothing more than a rangefinder lover’s wet-dream.

5 months ago |This camera is hot, but it’s really not in the same category as M43. This competes with the NEX-7 and M9. Honestly I think the NEX-7 is a joke and the M9 is an overpriced dinosaur. This camera hits the sweet spot. I might get this over a Nikon D4!
Berneck
5 months ago |I like the idea behind the NEX-7, it’s just a little too small for the lenses. There needs to be a balance. Simply trying to make the camera as small as possible needs to stop. It seems at first glance that Fuji have achieved that bakance.
As for the Leica, it reminds me of high end hi-fi speakers. While you can hear a huge difference in sound quality from a $3000 pair of speakers vs a $500 pair of speakers, there is a dramatic diminishing return as you go higher in price to say a $10,000 pair of speakers. To the point where I simply cannot hear a difference. The Leica M9 is the $10,000 pair of speakers in my mind.
andy
5 months ago |So so tempting. This has always been my conception of what the perfect digital camera would look like. It’s just that I’ve sunk so much into m43 myself. I guess we’ll just have to see how this device operates in the real world, and whether Panasonic or Olympus care to make a response of their own.
Fan
5 months ago |A true “response” takes years. If they want to respond this year, they started developing the response a long time ago. So is that a response?
Berneck
5 months ago |I fear that this will be the case. I’m not too confident that Oly/Pana are going to come close to anything like this. However, I am hoping that I am dead wrong. It’s just that these b/s iterations of cameras have been so unimpressive. If they would have taken the GH2 and stuffed that into the E-P3 body, I wouldn’t even consider looking at the Fuji! And this should have been done easily a year ago! IMHO
DonParrot

Fan
5 months ago |Yes exactly. Compared to that, the PENs are certainly not retro either.
Berneck
5 months ago |Well the reality is, the features of the camera (ie the shutter speed dial and aperture rings) are nothing but retro! Doesn’t matter how modern the body looks, it’s retro once you slap those features on. The NEX-7 is a completely different style.

5 months ago |Panasonic are after a much larger market than what the new Fuji is targeted at. I am sure Fuji will sell out of this camera depending if it is any good which the general public does not know yet but anyone can sell out of a camera depending how few they make in the first place. For a lot of people the Fuji will be too expensive, too heavy, too large with no zooms available. For a lot smaller amount of people it will be the camera they are after. Both companies are giving consumers what they want in their own way but Panasonic are after more of them.

5 months ago |If you look at the images that were >ah hem< leaked last week, it should be quite large indeed.
If it's an APS-C scale sensor, then check out the diameter of the lens, most of which use 52mm filters. I have several lenses with the same size filters and they ain't small, even on my giant-sized GH2!
This thing promises to be considerably larger in all dimensions.

5 months ago |Found the Fuji dimensions:
Fuji X-Pro1: 83mm H x 138mm W x 38mm
GH2: 89mm H x 124mm W x 76mm
The 76mm depth includes the eye cup (10mm) and grip (20mm).
The 83 comes to the top of the “Lumix” logo on the EVF housing.
Here are some more:
X-Pro 1: 138 x 83 x 38 mm
M9: 139 x 80 x 37 mm
NEX-7: 112 x 67 x 42.6 mm
NEX-5n: 111 x 59 x 38 mm
E-P3: 122 x 69 x 34.2 mm
GX1: 116 x 68 x 39 mm
J1: 106 x 61 x 30 mm
So it’s a bit wider, but much bulkier and even bigger than the M9!

Since nobody (apart from Fuji) has the full specification or has any idea how good or bad the pictures it produces will be, what is the basis for saying it will be better than this system or that system or that its’ sensor will be better than anything else yet seen.
As for committing to buy one before it has even been seen, it sounds like complete idiocy. Would you buy a new house or car without seeing it first?
