Panasonic GH5S Review – 10-bit Greatness

Olympus 17mm f/1.2 PRO test by Marius Masalar.
Introducing LEICA DG VARIO-ELMARIT 8-18mm /F2.8-4.0 ASPH. (PanasonicLumixVideo).
The 4 Toughest Hard Drives for Your Next Adventure (Explora).

Kevin:I wanted to take a moment and share with you what I feel to be an important demonstration of the GH5S. There’s a lot of negativity surrounding its size and lack of IBIS but under the right conditions / technique performs incredibly well.
This is a handheld test / demo with the Panasonic GH5S, Lumix 12 – 35mm F2.8 Power I.O.S. shot in 4K 60P captured to the Shogun Inferno in Pro Res LT and conformed to 24P. No warp stabilization has been applied!
Nudges and bumps are virtually non-existent with the smallest degree perceivable in the original 60P content . This has to do with technique, hand placement, and some weight put behind the camera.
The point behind this test is two fold; First it is a demonstration of the GH5S in conjunction with a Power ISO lens to reduce “hand jitter” or “bumps”. The second objective is to demonstrate how adding weight to the camera (less than 5lbs via cage and Atomos Shogun) can be functional as well as reducing jitter.
Some things to note; Yes I’m aware this is effectively “slow mo”, but the native content is smooth. This is how I shoot 90% of my B-Roll, so for me this is all that matters. Second, I own both cameras (GH5 & GH5S). I would never sub the GH5S in a scenario that had less than ideal conditions. For instance, I would never go handheld running with the GH5S, hike, climb, operate on uneven surfaces such as a boat or on a tele lens. You need to know when these cameras are appropriate to use, and when not. I swap these cameras / lenses in and out like a deck of cards, and no one camera is suitable for all work. That said the GH5S can perform beautifully without a gimbal for pushes, pulls, pans, slides, and even shoulder work. I hope you enjoy, and I hope this test / demo enables users to have a better understanding of its capabilities.

Introducing LEICA DG NOCTICRON 42.5mm / F1.2 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S. (PanasonicLumixVideo).
The controversial NEW Panasonic M43 Camera is a BEAST!! It’s COMPLETELY misunderstood! Panasonic GX9 (Connor Dunne).
Panasonic Lumix LX100 II Menus (ePhotozine).
In the Field with the Panasonic Lumix DC-LX100 II (Explora).

Ben:I’ve just finished a new video which I thought might be of interest to your readers. It’s a video where I share my top 3 lenses for filming weddings on the GH5, but really, my suggestions are applicable to any camera within the micro four thirds range. As I reveal each of the lenses, I give examples of which parts of the day they are most useful for. It’s full of sample footage from weddings I’ve shot over the last couple of months. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJIj6H_G_EY

Plenty of news on the facebook E-M1II group and the GH5 group.

Oh yes Blackmagic did it again: Their Pocket Cinema Camera shipment start got delayed by 1 month

Share

Blackmagic has a history of delaying the product shipment start over and over again. And yes, this seems to happen with the new Cinema MFT camera too. Today Bhphoto reports the camera shipment start is expected on October 5. I fear there will be further delays… :(

In the meantime check out this new sample video posted by Blackmagic:

Rendering of a GH5 camera with Full Frame sensor and FF sensor (just a rendering and not the real camera!!!)

One source just told me this:

1) UPDATED: The new Panasonic FF “might” have the Leica SL mount.
2) The new camera will be announced as a prototype on September 25 but final version will start shipping out in March 2019

There are still many questions that needs to be answered. The first one being…will Olympus join the new system too?

You can join the new Panasonic Full Frame Facebook group if you plan to buy this camera. There you can discuss all features and tests once it’s released!

Just to be clear, this is rumored to not be a fixed lens camera as someone suggested. This is a entire new system camera!
