Mark D. Young report about the stabiliser issue on the “upgraded” E-M1 II
Mark:
Having updated one of our studios E-M1 ii bodies we were testing the “improved image stabiliser in video” and saw a marked deterioration in stability. This held true in all modes. We checked against the non-updated units (The second M1.2, the M1X and the M1.3) and the difference is stark. Fiddling with the yaw axis “stickiness” (which is what I gather was done to “improve” panning) seems to have made the whole thing more skittish and when walking at a slow pace the whole thing wobbles about. For video users this is not an “improvement” at all! And now there is no way to “undo” the downgrade on that one body. Holding off on updating the X and mark iii bodies until this is remedied. If you do a lot of video and rely on the stabiliser, be cautious.

Ben:
I recently produced a video I thought might be of interest to yourself and your readers. I set myself the challenge of capturing a cinematic sequence with one restriction…I could only use focal lengths of 100mm or greater. I feel that like a lot of filmmakers, I tend to use wide lenses a lot of the time, so wanted to learn more about the purpose of long lenses and the unique shots that they can achieve. It was a fun experiment and my little girl was very patient while I asked her to walk up a hill…again and again and again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwM5A2KN9JQ
