Zuiko 20mm f/1.4 PRO review by Lenstip

Share

20mm f/1.4 at BHphoto. Adorama. GetOlympus.

Lenstip tested the lens and concluded:

I admit that, while writting this summary, my feelings were mixed. On the one hand the OM System M.Zuiko Digital 20 mm f/1.4 PRO is a shapely, well-put-together, weather-sealed lens that is able to provide excellent image quality in the frame center and moderate vignetting. Its autofocus performance is also beyond reproach. On the other hand the lens had many average results in different categories of our test and two painful slip-ups, quite unexpected in an instrument of such a type. I especially can’t understand why a standard lens with 11 elements inside, four of them made of low dispersion glass, deals just moderately well with both types of chromatic aberration.

(FT3) Does the new OMD camera will feature a new 24mp BSI non-stacked sensor?

Share

I still have no reliable specs on the new OMD camera that will be announced on February 24th. All I got from “other” sources is that it might uses a new 24mp BSI non-stacked sensor. Sounds odd the camera uses a “non-stacked” sensor. Moreover Sony has a 21MP stacked fT sensor ready for use:

Don’t know what sense it would make to go for a 24mp non stacked sensor…

What we know for sure about this camera:

  • Announcement on February 24th
  • Price is slightly above $2,000
  • Shipment start is March

If you happen to know the specs of this camera drop me a message using this anonymous contact box or by sending me an email at 43rumors@gmail.com.

Nikkei: Panasonic’s Q3 profit slides as material costs rise and appliance sales fall

Share

Nikkei reports:

Japan’s Panasonic Corp on Wednesday posted a larger-than-expected 44% slide in third-quarter operating profit, hit hard by rising costs for raw materials, component shortages and a drop in domestic sales for appliances.
Panasonic has sought to reduce its reliance on low-margin consumer electronics and appliances, shifting its focus to automotive batteries for Tesla Inc, production machinery, components and more recently supply chain management services.

Panasonic did not share any detail about their camera business results. This now falls into the more general “consumer and home appliances” category. And about that it’s said:

The industrial conglomerate said the profit margin at the division which houses its consumer and home appliances businesses was squeezed by rises in the cost of iron, copper and other materials.

Pity we have no clue to know how the Lumix business is doing…
