Source believes OM-1II had to be announced because “Olympus” brand name agreement is ending
One of my sources had a meeting with Om Digital. His idea is that the OM-1II had to be released as a new model because the trademark agreement to use the “Olympus” name is ending. Therefore OM Digital had to re brand the OM-1 camera and they took this chance to add some minor hardware updates (better buttons, larger buffer, improved IBIS).
Quick thoughts on the OM Digital release…a missed opportunity or a glimpse of hope?
We now know that the OM-1II will be a slightly improved OM-1. And that the 150-600mm lens will be a MFT version of the original Sigma 150-600mm Full Frame lens. In this video I shared my thoughts. But in short:
Positive note:
- At least after one year we are getting something new
- We are getting three “new” products
- We are getting a new lens roadmap
Negative note:
- OM-1II improvements are very minor
- 150-600mm lens has unnecessary weight and size because of the original Full Frame design
- Putting an extra $700 price tag on a re-branded Sigma FF lens is disappointing
What do you think?
