12 new lenses from Schneider, Olympus, Panasonic, Big, SLRmagic….which one do you like?

Share

The 42.5mm f/1.2 and 150mm f/2.8 Panasonic prototype lens (Image courstesy “H.B.”).

I am a bit surprised Sigma and Tamron still didn’t show any new m43 lens. Anyway, a total of twelve lenses (some are protptypes only) have been announced at Photokina. We have the new SLRmagic manual lenses, the amazing three Schneider AF lenses for less than 1500 Euro, the new BIG lens and of course the Panaosnic and Olympus lenses. Now we all want to know from you:

What are the new announced lenses you are considering to buy?

First full Olympus 60mm review made by Robin Wong!

Share

Image courtesy by Robin Wong (Thanks!).

Robin Wong (Click here) posted the first full Olympus 60mm macro review (Preorder at Amazon, Adorama Bhphoto). He compared the lens quality to the 50mm f/2.0 FT lens and said  “the 60mm F2.8  lens is sharper“. De facto that shapr that “Moiré pattern has become an issue for a few photographs that I have taken“. Read the full review to get an idea about the quality of the lens. What I like most about the review are the pictures. They are so amazing that it almost makes me think why I never liked macro photography until today :)  Also Zuikoholics posted the first part of the 60mm macro review.
Lens preorders are up at Amazon, Adorama Bhphoto.

So, we are talking about lenses so let me catch up with a link to the 12-35mm X lens review posted by Photozone (Click here): “The lens is, undoubtedly, a good one but not stellar. It is chili-sharp in the image center but the border region isn’t quite on this level in the lower focal length range.” No mistake, Photozone says it’s a very good lens but maybe not as top good as expected form a lens in this price range.

ThatNikonGuy posted a set of GH3 image smaples taken at different ISO (Click here to see them on Flickr). I will leave any comment to you guys! I usually don’t care a lot about extreme High ISO but certainly those images do look fine to me. Keep also in mind that the firmware isn’t final yet! (Thanks Duarte for sending me the link!).

Two new interviews. Panasonic: “FF is possible”. Olympus “we will have new EVF technology”

Share

EosHD (Click here) published an Interview with Yoshiyuki Inoue, Senior Engineering Planner for the Panasonic GH3. Some info:
– still difficult to make global shutter
– Now the priority is primes.
– About the AG-Af100: “ that camera once was popular, but at this time not as popular.
– Full Frame: “I think it is possible with our technology, but we have to have MANY discussions on how to sell a mirrorless full frame camera.

Onfoto (Click here) posted an Interview with Toshiyuki Terada, Product Planning, Olympus Imaging Corporation. Some info:
– With the OMD series there is the possibiliy to creat both a lower and higher than E-M5 model.
– When asked if there will be a MFT version of the [shoplink 23681 ebay]12-60mm FT lens[/shoplink] he said nothing specific at the moment.
– “we need m43 teleconverters for sure“.
– “we will have new EVFs that should satisfy even the most critical photographers.

Editor’s note: Panasonic stated many times during Photokina that they want to be competitive in the PRO market. But I doubt they will go FF any time soon! About Olympus EVF. I told you weeks ago that there is some strange rumor about a new kind of EVF. I hope to get some more details soon. But this secret product should arrive relatively soon…with the end fo the year!
