Rod Lawton: “I think I just bought my last OM System camera”

Share

Rod Lawton wrote an article on Digitalcameraworld where he explains why he just bought the Olympus E-P7. But he also adds that this might be his last OM camera he will ever buy:

The PEN series symbolized style, simplicity and portability. It was small enough to fit in a jacket pocket or handbag, and had a touch of elegance.
Under the OM system, the product range has been significantly reduced and focused on the outdoor and wildlife markets.
The other day, someone commented in a livestream chat, “I didn’t leave Olympus, but Olympus left me,” and I think that’s a perfect statement.

I do hope OM Digital will realize that the market is now favorable for the introduction of small compact digital cameras.  A new E-P8 and PEN-FII might become real hotseller!

Curiosity: Olympus Mju μ selling hot in Japan

Share

Mynavi reports about a quite curious trend among the Z-generation:

“Compact cameras are popular. Among them, Olympus’ μ series is overwhelmingly popular. Apparently it was introduced by an influencer or YouTuber, and only μ is nominated for purchase. Even if you suggest that they have other cameras, they won’t look at you, and if they don’t have them in stock, most of them will just say, “Okay, that’s fine,” and walk away. By the way, the current store prices for the μ series start from the 40,000 yen range. At the time of release, it was around 30,000 yen. Even so, we don’t have enough products at all, and as soon as we put them on the shelves, they sell quickly.

So, we are living in a world now where TikTok-Youtube-Instagram is deciding what cameras you should buy even if you don’t know why you need them :)
