There is a new complete E-PM1 review at ePhotozine (Click here): “Image quality of the Olympus PEN Mini E-PM1 is excellent with excellent detail from the 12 megapixel sensor, with low noise and great colour. The PEN Mini E-PM1 is the most compact of the Olympus Micro Four Thirds cameras yet still gives you fairly quick access to controls through on screen functions, and three of the rear buttons can be customised“.
The camera gets “Highly Recommended” by the reviewer! Also the German website Digitalkamera (Click here) tested the E-PM1 and they seem to like it a lot.

Amos Chapple contacted me to share the following news: “Recently my UK agent Rex Features distributed some images from a trip of mine to the living bridges of northeast India – all the pictures were shot with a Lumix GH1. The pictures have been bought widely in the UK including the Guardian newspaper (a full A2 double-page spread!), Wanderlust magazine (A3 double-page spread on magazine stock paper), Hello Magazine, the Daily Telegraph, the Daily Mail and, I’m told many more print publications. Additionally the images have gone viral in the blogosphere, with one of my images of the bridges on Flickr receiving 38,000 hits in the space of three days. The images have now been picked up by Associated Press so hopefully some American usage will follow! One image which might be of particular interest is in the Daily Telegraph gallery: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2035520/Meghalaya-villagers-create-living-bridges-training-roots-river.html The second image (“Nature’s incredible engineering”) was shot at 800 iso, with an aperture of F1.4 and SS of 1/25th of a second. The image seems to have been tweaked slightly by a very skillful image handler, but as you can see the IQ is superb, and pretty much definitively proves these cameras are usable professionally. The lens was (my favourite of all time) the old 4/3 Leica 25mm F1.4. with a 4/3 – m4/3 adapter. I wonder how many lenses of any kind would look that good shot at 1.4. Another one, the owner said his body is 16 days old: http://www.pantip.com/cafe/camera/topic/O11103535/O11103535.html. As you see from both cases, it is a design flaw and poor assembly. The mode dial only has a tiny dent to align it in the right position under iAUTO mode and is glued to the knob underneath. The way this dial is cheaply built doesn’t look like a $900 camera to me! I was on my vacation in the UK and had bad experienced with Olympus distributor in Thailand, so I decided to stick it back in its place with super glue. What better can the service center do? Put extra glue on it? Bah!”

SLRmagic announced a new digiscoping solution for micro four thirds bird watchers. With this solution micro four thirds users may easily take photos or video of birds at great distances. The current options by other brands with ED glass offerings cost from $1000-$5000. The longest micro four thirds lens for now only reach 300mm and cost between $500-700. The SLR Magic will be a 12-36×50 ED Spotting Scope. The photo of the Flamingo is shot at 420mm and the photo of the bird is taken at 840mm. The lens will be released in October for $250 and SLR Magic 12-35×50 ED spotting scope for micro four thirds should be released in November for $400.

Photoreview Australia (Click here) reviewed the [shoplink 23109]Panasonic GF3[/shoplink]: “Imatest showed RW2.RAW files converted with Silkypix Developer Studio to be up to expectations for a 12-megapixel camera. JPEGs were slightly below expectations but a cut above the GF2. Resolution held up very well with both file types across the camera’s sensitivity range, as shown in the graph of our Imatest results below.”. Shop links at [shopcountry 23109].
And Photoreview Australia (Click here) also tested the ultratiny Panasonic 14mm lens: “Imatest showed this lens provided the highest resolution between f/2.5 and f/5.6 with a gradual tailing off towards f/22 as diffraction progressively affected image quality. Interestingly, when the GF3 was used in any of the auto exposure modes (iA, P or the Scene pre-sets), the camera favoured aperture settings within this range and would only stop down when it ran out of ISO room“. Let’s start with the good news first. The must-have 20mm f/1.7 pancake lens got another price drop and is now in Stock for $342 only at Amazon (Click here). And the most featured of all Panasonic camera, the GH2, is now in Stock for $1389 via third party resellers on Amazon (Click here).
And now the bad news. The three biggest US stores still have no single Leica 25mm in Stock: Nor Amazon nor Adorama nor B&H.

There is a well written article at TheOnlinePhotographer (Click here) that talks about the new Nikon cameras and the competition with Micro Four Thirds: “Thing is, I’m not sure we have to do any more waiting. Yesterday seemed like a milestone to me. It was a couple of Nikons that arrived, I know that. But somehow it seemed like what really arrived was Micro 4/3.”
The Nikon and Olympus shooter Thom Hogan (Click here) is daily sharing his thoughts about the new Nikon cameras. In short the Nikon J1 and V1 are not bad cameras but there are things that he doens’t like: Price too high, no fast lens, lenses are too big, wrong marketing, still no social fucntions and “Crappy sample images”.
