Curiosity: First leaked image of the S9 shows it’s basically a Full Frame GM1 clone

I was hoping to get a new compact MFT Lumix from Panasonic. Instead on May 22 Panasonic will announce a new Full Frame version of the glorious little GM1 MFT camera. The new L-mount camera will be named S9 and be announced along two pancake L-mount lenses.

this is all we should get for now. But I heard more Panasonic events are scheduled from early Summer. They still have two more Lumix cameras registered in China. Usually this means we can expect two more cameras to be announced within 1-2 months!

Official Panasonic Lumix teaser for the May 22 announcement

Panasonic has invited a lot of “content creators” to the “Lumix Global Summit” event in Osaka. There is also this teaser for a May 22 announcement. All I heard is that there will be a new S9 L-mount camera. I have not heard any reliable rumor about a possible new MFT camera.

That said Panasonic officially registered three new cameras in China. The S9 is one of them…so we still have two more cameras to be announced soon! I hope one of them is the GH7 or a new entry level GM/GF kind of compact camera.

Mapcamera April sales ranking: OM-1II performing well

The large Japanese store Mapcamera shared the top 10 of the best selling cameras in April:

  1. Fujifilm X-T5
  2. Nikon Z f
  3. Sony α7C II
  4. Sony ZV-E10
  5. Sony α7IV
  6. Canon EOS R6 Mark II
  7. Sony α7RV
  8. DJI Osmo Pocket 3
  9. OM-1 II
  10. Nikon Z8

Some thoughts on this ranking:

  • The X-T5 has an impressive jump to the top. People can’t find the X100VI in Stock and therefore might be getting the Fujifilm X-T5 instead.
  • Sony still selling strong with 4 out of 10 cameras in the top 10
  • OM-1II made it into the top 10.
  • DJI finally made it into the top 10. And I suspect in the years to come DJI will be seen very often in those kind of rankings
