Panasonic Lumix GX7 vs GX1 Camera Comparison with Barney Sykes (Lumix G product manager).

GX7 preorders are still high at Amazon (ranking here). But let’s take a look to some interesting new GX7 info: On top you can watch a nice interview with Barney Sykes from Panasonic. Barney says this is the best sensor in the area “we are competing” (I guess he means MFT). And if you want to check if what he tells is true check out the first ISO Full Size image sample posted by ePhotozine (Click here). To make it easier for you I linked you to the direct E-P5 and GX7 Full size ISO images:

ISO 100 E-P5 and GX7 (actually 125 for the Panasonic).
ISO 200 E-P5 and GX7
ISO 400 E-P5 and GX7
ISO 800 E-P5 and GX7
ISO 1600 E-P5 and GX7
ISO 3200 E-P5 and GX7
ISO 6400 E-P5 and GX7
ISO 12800 E-P5 and GX7
ISO 25600 E-P5 and GX7

Of course these are JPG results and we know Olympus usually is a tiny bit better here. That said..

(FT3) High End OMD Price around 1.500 Euro?

Share

Olympus first High End OMD could be priced around 1.500 Euro/ $1,500 (body only). That’s more expensive than other High End APS-C DSLR like the Nikon D7100 ($1200 at Amazon) or the just announced Canon 70D (again $1200). And the same price as the Full Frame [shoplink 40841 ebay]Canon 6D (right here on eBay)[/shoplink]. If the rumor is correct and that’s the price of the OMD it better has to be damn good to compete against the two mentioned cameras!

Olympus Japan released a new firmware update for the E-P5 that modifies the transfer mode settings for [shoplink 40829 ebay]Eye-Fi cards[/shoplink]. There is not other fix or improvement coming along the update.

There is also a new review written by ThePhoBlographer: “Olympus’s EP5 is their best Pen camera yet…by no means is this a bad camera. In fact, it’s a rather exceptional one. But it could have gone a tad further.

(FT4) There is also a high end MFT zoom coming along the new OMD announcement.

Image on top: the Four Thirds [shoplink 25320 ebay]Zuiko 14-35mm f/2.0[/shoplink]. Same quality can be expected by the new f/2.8 zoom.

Two sources told me that there will be a new High End MFT zoom lens. I don’t have reliable info about the lens specs but I have been told the lens has an f/2.8 aperture. There is no chance to see f/2.0 zoom like the [shoplink 25320 ebay]Zuiko 14-35mm f/2.0 (here one Bay)[/shoplink] or [shoplink 25119 ebay]Zuiko35-100mm f/2.0(here one Bay)[/shoplink] lens. But at least the new High End OMD will be able to use the full AF potential of these existing FT lenses.

P.S.: The new High End Lens and the High End OMD will be announced the second week of September!

(FT4) Possible E-M1 description

Share

These could be some of the changes you see on the new High End OMD that could be named E-M1. I also have been told the new camera is a tiny bit bigger. It will be also interesting to see how they will support the FT mount lenses! It’s said that the FT lenses will 100% be compatible with that camera. That’s why the new OMD will be also the successor of the current [shoplink 17163 ebay]Olympus E-5[/shoplink] camera too! One camera to rule them all!

Amos Chapple work has been featured on CNN (Click here). Pictures have been taken with the GH3 but he confessed to me that he could change to the GX7 soon :)

And here are more 43rumors readers work to see:

Duncan:Short blog post of why I swapped the Panasonic 20/1.7 for the Olympus 17/1.8 – http://www.duncanmartin.com/blog/2013/07/losing-faith-in-the-lumix-20/

Pier-Yves:I have a DMC-GH3 I bought upon its release. I use it everyday for my institutional shoots. However, I always hesitate to use the Panasonic for a wedding where the shooting is more restrictive. No right to mistake. A few days ago, I had a little Wedding close to Chartres. Only 5 peoples. I wished to test the GH3 in real situation with a simple Rode Videomic Pro Microphone.

Romain:Hi, just a weeding video with a GH3 / 12mm 1.6, 25mm 0,95 and GH2 with 12-35mm, Oly Zuiko 50mm 1.8 http://vimeo.com/70587239

Nick:I just wanted to let everyone know that I’ve set up my Zenfolio web page where people can see my artwork and photography. http://concordenickartphoto.zenfolio.com I’ve been an Olympus owner going back to the OM-10 days and progressing upwards to my current E-5.

Gonzalo: “I came to the m43 world from video, as I was a filmmaking student in the search of an affordable camera to shoot my school projects, but even since I bought the GH3 last January, I started enjoying photography as never before. Therefore I have created a blog where I post my experiences using this camera for photography, showing that it’s as capable for stills as it is for video. But of course videos on the way, too! :) http://gonzalobroto.blogspot.com

Nathan: “I’ve just written an informal review on my favorite lens, the Panasonic 14mm F2.5 Pancake lens. I thought this could be benificial to readers of 43 Rumors. This lens has gotten a negative reputation but I love it and wanted to express that love. :) http://talkingtree.org/my-love-for-the-panasonic-lumix-14mm-f2-5-pancake-lens-perfect-for-landscapes/

Heather:I just finished up writing our full review of the Pen E-P5. I can honestly say that I’ve never enjoyed testing a camera more than this one. The review is written in the style of a travel diary to give it a unique flavor. I’d be ever so grateful if you’d share: http://www.bestmirrorlesscamerareviews.com/2013/07/31/travelling-home-with-the-olympus-pen-e-p5-a-full-review/

Josh:We’ve shot our scifi feature, Senn, entirely on a Panasonic GH3 (and 43rumors was very helpful to us in the filmmaking process!). The 1080 60fps capability was invaluable. The Senn teaser has just gone live: https://vimeo.com/71460025 Believe it or not the entire production budget is $10k. Amazing what one can do these days with inexpensive tools…
