Curiosity: Panasonic removed Stock photos from the S9 and G100D website
As you know Panasonic used some Stock Photos shot on Nikon and Canon cameras to promote their Japanese Lumix S9 product page. Panasonic did now remove all of them from two product pages and openly shared the data. Small curiosity, there were such photos also on the G100D MFT camera page:
Lumix S9 website

Lumix G100D website

Technical Award Reason for winning: Comments from the Photographic Society of Japan Award Selection Committee
OM Digital Solutions has been leveraging the strengths of the Four Thirds format to develop technology that will expand the scope of macro photography. “M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO” announced in 2023,
- ① Floating focus technology with a maximum shooting magnification of 4x in 35mm format
- ②High-speed focusing mechanism and high-precision control technology using a stepping motor
By combining it with the digital single-lens camera “OM-1” series,
- ③Computational photography technology that compensates for the depth of field, which becomes shallower as the magnification increases
- ④ Up to 7 stops of image stabilization technology with 5-axis synchronized image stabilization
This allows handheld shooting even in situations where the use of a tripod was previously required, providing the user with the benefit of not missing out on a photo opportunity.
Furthermore, in combination with system accessories, a 2x teleconverter (MC-20) can be attached to increase shooting magnification to 8x, and a macro flash (STF-8) can be attached to the tip of the lens to create a variety of lighting effects.
One of the features of OM SYSTEM is that it expands the possibilities of handheld macro photography by combining lenses, bodies, and accessories.
“M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO” Developer’s comment:
OM Digital Solutions Co., Ltd. Development Department Kazunori Yuge
We are very honored to have received the prestigious Technology Award from the Photographic Society of Japan. Although we faced many extremely difficult challenges during development, everyone involved worked together without compromise to create a unique telephoto macro lens. As a result, it has become possible to perform high-magnification macro handheld photography, which was previously difficult to do, and we would like to express our sincere gratitude for the recognition of the value of expanding new photographic fields. In the future, we will continue to take on challenges in areas that have traditionally been considered difficult to photograph, pursue new photography methods using computational photography, and continue to provide systems that expand the range of photography for our customers. Please look forward to it.

DejaVu: SwitchLens MFT mount system for smartphones on Kickstarter…sort of Olympus AIR clone idea?
A Chinese company has launched the SwitchLens project on Kickstarter (Click here). It allows MFT lenses to be used on a device directly connected to the smartphone. It reminds me a bit of the old Olympus Air A01 “camera” (listed here at BHphoto). It wasn’t very successful, so I don’t know why it would work this time around for this idea.
