1. Added feature with an upgrade software key DMW-SFU3A
   – An “Activation” function has been added to enable the extended feature using the optional upgrade software key, DMW-SFU3A sold separately.
   The following function is added by activation.
   · [ARRI LogC3] is added to [Photo Style].
2. Support for DMW-XLR2
   – XLR microphone adaptor, DMW-XLR2 has now been supported.
   * 32bit float recording function is not available.
3. Other improvements
   – Improved operational stability.

Panasonic also updated the software for three lenses:

• Improved AF performance during zooming.
  Compatible cameras: DC-G9M2, DC-GH7 (as of June 18, 2024)
• Improved operational stability.

Why did they choose a large full-size sensor for the Lumix S9? The reason is to clearly differentiate it from smartphones. That’s what Toshiyuki Tsumura said:

Obviously, full-size sensor cameras are easier to understand because they are easier to blur and have less noise. I would like you to first experience a full-size sensor that you can’t get with a smartphone. It is people who are knowledgeable about cameras who will be able to understand the advantages of Micro Four Thirds. For people with low camera literacy, Micro Four Thirds is difficult to use. If it’s a full-size sensor that blurs and has less noise, even those people can get on board.

What they are probably missing is that the younger generation doesn’t care so much about sensor size. Esthetics, Compact size, affordable price, usability, connectivity, film styles are more important for them. I can see a cool looking compact MFT camera selling good among that target group.

Technical Award Reason for winning: Comments from the Photographic Society of Japan Award Selection Committee

OM Digital Solutions has been leveraging the strengths of the Four Thirds format to develop technology that will expand the scope of macro photography. “M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 90mm F3.5 Macro IS PRO” announced in 2023,

• ① Floating focus technology with a maximum shooting magnification of 4x in 35mm format
• ②High-speed focusing mechanism and high-precision control technology using a stepping motor

By combining it with the digital single-lens camera “OM-1” series,

• ③Computational photography technology that compensates for the depth of field, which becomes shallower as the magnification increases
• ④ Up to 7 stops of image stabilization technology with 5-axis synchronized image stabilization

This allows handheld shooting even in situations where the use of a tripod was previously required, providing the user with the benefit of not missing out on a photo opportunity.
Furthermore, in combination with system accessories, a 2x teleconverter (MC-20) can be attached to increase shooting magnification to 8x, and a macro flash (STF-8) can be attached to the tip of the lens to create a variety of lighting effects.
One of the features of OM SYSTEM is that it expands the possibilities of handheld macro photography by combining lenses, bodies, and accessories.
