E-M1 more popular than Sony’s A7-A7r series (Amazon ranking).

I know we have to take the Amazon mirrorless ranking (Click here) results with a grain of salt. That said I noticed something I didnt’ expect. The Olympus E-M1 has never been surpassed by the so praised Sony A7-A7r cameras. The E-M1 constantly ranks above them even now that the A7r is in Stock for the first time.

Olympus has done it right with the E-M1. Hope they can repeat the success with the new OMD camera that is going to be announced soon!

(FT5) Rumor correction: The new OMD entry level camera is the E-M5 successor!

Share

Sorry guys for the confusion but now I am 100% sure about it: The new OMD camera coming in January is also the E-M5 successor. The confusion started because two of my sources have been told the E-M5 will still remain on sale for 2014. This lead us to believe that the new OMD camera will not replace the E-m5. As I learned tonight after a short discussion with trusted sources is that the new OMD will indeed be the E-M5 successor. But the original E-M5 camera will remain in production and available for sales even after the successor announcement.

Also confirmed: it has the same E-M5 sensor with E-M1 imaging processor.

Again back in Stock: 12-40mm lens. National Geogaphic Photographer Jay Dickman loves the lens!

Share

Quick note for US readers: The 12-40mm is in Stock at Amazon US (Click here). And this time they have a much larger Stock available. By the way, National Geographic photographer and Pulitzer prize winner travels with EM-1 and loves the 12-40mm: Firstlightworkshop.com:

The E-M1 has been a fantastic camera for this assignment.  The handling is superb and the image quality is spectacular.  I’ve been really impressed by the noise-handling of the camera — 3200 looks tremendous.  Plus, the 12-40mm f2.8 has become my favorite lens to use, especially if carrying only one camera.

(UPDATED FT5) New OMD coming already in January (with E-M1 processor and E-M5 sensor)

Share

Small update about the soon to be announced new OMD entry level camera. According to one source it will be already announced in January. UPDATE: I corrected the original rumor. The new OMD has the same processor as the E-M1. and the same sensor as theE-M5. The source also confirmed the camera will NOT replace the E-M5. The E-M5 will continue to be sold and likely be replaced at Photokina.
