Bloomberg and Toyo Keizai interviewed  Olympus Ceo Hiroyuki Sasa.

– Mirrorless market will growth particularly in the premium segment.
– Also Europe and North America mirrorless market is expected to grow. And OMD models did well.
– Olympus was mainly a compact camera producer and Olympus is now shifting to mirrorless system cameras. Low price models have been reduced
– Olympus expected a break-even last year but PEN sales were lower than expected. And Olympus also had delay in shipments (example for the E-M10).
– The camera unit will probably have operating profit of 5 billion yen in the 12 months starting April 2015, after a loss of 3.5 billion yen expected in the current fiscal year.
– Olympus targets to sell 630,000 units of mirrorless cameras this year, 24 percent higher than the previous 12-month period. Sales of compact cameras are expected to plunge to 1 million units this year from 2.71 million units a year earlier
– Olympus plans to focus their camera business also on new markets like vehicle cameras and of course medical business
– Olympus will never stop the digital camera business because it also influences technology development in other business (like the medical).

In short: More premium cameras to come and break even expected for the current fiscal year. Looks good if they can really achieve the goals!

Panasonic 12-32mm review at Photozone: Congrats for the size, but performance is just average.

Photozone (Click here) tested the tiniest of all large sensor zoom lenses and writes:

We certainly congratulate Panasonic for having created this tiny wonder and along with his in-house cousin it is obvious choice when size and weight really matter. However, if you are after a high performance lens you should look towards the Olympus M.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8 ED Pro or Panasonic Lumix G 12-35mm f/2.8 ASPH Power O.I.S. instead.

The lens gets a 2,5 out of 5 average score. Note that Photozone is a very sever website and doesn’t share high scores easily! I do own the lens and it does exactly what I needs. Take good quality pictures while keeping the overall GM1+lens size down. Or do you really want to use a Large Olympus 12-40mm on it? :)

(FT4) Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 to be announced soon? Priced at around $1,799.

.

A source just told me that Olympus is likely going to announced the new 7-14mm f/2.8 Zuiko MFT lens very soon! He also sent me the price in non $ currency. I made a rough conversion and the lens should cost  $1,799 which is also the price of the Four Thirds version (here on Amazon). But the FT version is one stop slower. I have been told the lens has an extremely high quality.

Will you buy the $1799 high quality Zuiko 7-14mm f/2.8 MFT lens?
