Well guys, I just got my first “proof” the E-M1 will indeed get 4K video recording via firmware upgrade! I got an image I cannot share showing the video settings of the E-M1 with the new firmware. I can tell it really doesn’t look like a fake image or so!

It shows “mov 3840×2160” in the settings. And framerates were 25 + 30 + 50 + 60 + 120 + 240 in movie menu below Mode function.

The story is really strange. Seems like only a small group of testers got the 4K feature in their beta firmware while other “photo” testers didn’t have this. That could explain the contradicting rumors I got. I have been told the firmware is coming on Sept 14 or Sept 15. For the first time I really believe that 4K is coming to the E-M1…I saw it :) That’s going to be a very bold move by Olympus. Adding 4K to a  camera via fw update is something none has ever done before. Chapeau!

UPDATE: I still have sources saying they don’t know about 4K on the 2.0 firmware they tested or saw. So either this is a super secret Olympus addition or Olympus will decide to not add the 4K feature on the new firmware. This is one of the weirdest rumors I have ever worked on. I am glad this will be over in a few days :)

Got a small update about the soon to be announced new Panasonic 35-100mm lens. The aperture is f/3.5-5.6. Price is unclear but it’s “rumored” to be just under $500.

Along the GM5 and LX100 Panasonic will also finally announce the 35-100mm specs and price. There will be also a minor update on one of the Panasonic prime lenses.

After the GH4, FZ1000 and the soon to be announced LX100 I was expecting the Gm5 to have 4K recording too. Well, I was wrong. It has no 4K. Not a big deal, I guess 99% of us would not need that anyway :)

The GM5 has 16 megapixel sensor, built-in EVF (just like the LX100) and No(!) on sensor stabilization. It will be announced on Monday (Sept 15) at 13:00 in Berlin time!
