Dicahub posted that interesting comparison between the 40MP and 16MP images shot with the E-M5II:
The image on the top shows the 40mp original image downsampled to 16mp (on the left). It get’s compared with the the “normal” 16MP shot you see on the right.
The image below goes the other way around: shows the 40mp original image (on the left). It get’s compared with the the “upsampled” 16MP to 40MP shot you see on the right.

You might wonder if there are other “hidden” improvements such as overall image quality and autofocus performance for stills. Olympus couldn’t confirm to me if the sensor is the same. Regarding image quality you get the same nice colour rendition of Olympus cameras. There is a slightly improved detail rendering at high ISOs thanks to the new TruePic VII Processor.

And our reader “Given” sent me a note: ” What i wanted to tell you is that the Olympus OMD-EM5II High Resolution Raw files open flawlessly in the latest version of the Open Source Raw Developer; RawTherapee.
