Camera Intelligence, the AI camera startup building an intelligent camera system for creators, today announced its AI-native interchangeable lens Micro Four Thirds camera, Caira, on Kickstarter. The 26-day pre-order campaign, which offers early bird pricing, runs from 4th until November 30th.

Caira is designed for creators, travelers, and marketing professionals who demand the quality of a mirrorless camera but with the simplicity of a smartphone. Powered by onboard AI, Caira helps users bypass the steep learning curves of laptop-based post-production, streamlining traditional creative editing workflows.

Caira attaches seamlessly to an iPhone via MagSafe and is controlled by an iOS app that has been designed to be simple and easy to use for camera beginners. It offers a “Snap, Capture, Share” experience, where photos and videos are instantly accessible in the iPhone’s Photos app without needing memory cards. The camera features an advanced 4/3” Sony dual-native ISO Micro Four Thirds image sensor, an interchangeable MFT lens mount, and a 5,000 mAh battery.

The camera’s “Powerful AI Engine,” which combines Qualcomm Snapdragon and Google Edge TPU chips, fuses Micro Four Thirds optics with on-board computational photography and AI capabilities to automate complex content editing. Caira debuts three flagship AI features:

  • Voice Control: Built-in Large Language Model (LLM) enables hands-free operation—control camera settings or trigger self-timed photos by speaking.
  • Smart Styles: Six curated, pre-made color looks trained using deep neural networks move beyond basic filters to help creators find a unique aesthetic. Voice control also connects to smart styles so users can select colors by voice.
  • Generative Editing (Caira Pro only): First mirrorless camera to integrate Google’s AI model, Nano Banana, enabling advanced, real-time edits via natural-language prompts (e.g., “Change his navy blazer into burgundy,” or “Turn this daytime scene into nighttime”).

“With Caira, we are not just launching a new camera on Kickstarter; we are introducing an intelligent creative partner,” said Vishal Kumar, CEO and Co-founder of Camera Intelligence. “We’ve spoken to hundreds of solo creators, travelers, and marketers who have upgraded from their smartphone to their first mirrorless camera. They’re overwhelmed by complex camera buttons and tedious post-processing. These people want more than great image quality—they need flexibility, connectivity, quick and fun editing features that match their imagination. Caira’s integrated AI flattens the learning curve and actively assists them from capture to share. Our mission is to help anyone create content that looks and feels high-quality.”

Availability and Pricing

Caira will RRP for $995 (body only), but on Kickstarter Caira is offered as a super early bird price of $695 (30% off) for the first 100 backers, followed by $795 (20% off) for all remaining backers. All Kickstarter backers will get Caira Pro, a $7/month software subscription for Generative Editing (powered by Nano Banana) and a Feedback Assistant (powered by Gemini), free for 6 months — extending to 9 months if a stretch goal is reached.

Camera Intelligence has partnered with a trusted manufacturer with proven experience in camera production — together, they have already produced 50 pre-production Caira units as well as the first batch of 500 electronic boards. Mass manufacturing and final assembly will begin once the Kickstarter ends. Shipping for Kickstarter backers will be ready for delivery from mid-January to the end of February 2026, depending on destination country.

The company believes AI can transform workflows, increase productivity, and serve as a catalyst for innovation. When applied responsibly, AI can be a force for good—amplifying human creativity rather than replacing it.

DxO PhotoLab 9.2 -> 15% off with our code “Rumors15”

  • Re-organizable masks with improved labelling — With this update, users gain even greater control over their local adjustments. Masks and sub-masks can now be freely reordered, making it easier to keep complex edits organized and intuitive. These refinements streamline workflows and help photographers stay focused on the creative process.
  • New PhotoLibrary filters — File management and image curation become even more efficient in DxO PhotoLab 9.2 thanks to three new filters designed to speed up how photographers locate their work. Alongside existing options, users can now instantly display only Unedited Images, quickly isolate Edited Images, or focus specifically on Edited Images featuring Local corrections. These filters simplify navigation and editing across large photo libraries.
  • Improved History panel for Windows — Already available on macOS, the History panel now remembers every step of an edit even after the software is closed and reopened. Windows users can step back to any point in their workflow across multiple sessions, ensuring complete editing continuity.

  • 30 authentic paper surfaces — Inspired by traditional photographic, artistic, and antique papers, the new textures add grain, depth, and character to images.

€21,500 Full Frame vs €4,800 Micro Four Thirds: Is the Price Difference Worth It?

Share

Note: Video in German. Activate subs or AI audio translation

Our friends at Amazing Nature Alpha just released a fascinating comparison between two extreme wildlife setups: a Sony full-frame kit with the FE 600mm f/4 mounted on the Sony Alpha 1 II and an OM System OM-1 Mark II paired with the 300mm f/4 PRO IS. The price difference is staggering — but how big is the gap in real image quality?

The Two Systems Compared

  • Sony FE 600mm f/4 GM OSS + Sony Alpha 1 II – Cost: ~21,500 € | Weight: ~4.4 kg | Resolution: 50 MP full-frame | Advantages: unmatched detail, shallow depth of field, less noise, superior autofocus | Drawbacks: extremely heavy, extremely expensive
  • OM System OM-1 Mark II + M.Zuiko 300mm f/4 PRO IS – Equivalent field of view: 600mm f/4 | Cost: ~4,900 € (bundle) | Weight: ~2.1 kg | Resolution: 20 MP MFT stacked sensor | Advantages: lightweight, compact, excellent IBIS, macro-friendly, great for handheld wildlife | Drawbacks: less resolution, noisier files, AF not as consistent, bokeh less creamy

Real-World Results

In side-by-side tests, the Sony setup files clearly look cleaner, sharper, and smoother in the background. The OM System OM-1 Mark II images are slightly grainier and have more depth of field — sometimes even an advantage (for macro or subjects on different planes). Still, the difference is much smaller than expected, especially for web or social media use.

Price and Practicality

With the OM System you could buy the 150–400mm f/4.5 PRO with built-in teleconverter and still save around 9,000 € compared to the Sony kit. That’s a second lens and a small used car for the same money!

Conclusion

Both systems are excellent and have their place: Sony full frame → for those who want the absolute best image quality, shallowest depth of field, and can handle the cost and weight. OM System Micro Four Thirds → for those who want portability, value, and flexibility while still getting outstanding images. Ultimately, the question is: is the full frame system really worth paying more than 4× the price?
