OM-D EM10 Mark 2 Feature Overview – Improvements and New Features

We have new E-M10II reviews to report today:

ePhotozine writes:

The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II is an excellent mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, noticeably improving over the E-M10 (Mark I), as well as offering a great entry into the OM-D range. The E-M10 Mark II would also make a very good upgrade path for people with the original Olympus OM-D E-M5, with a larger EVF, built in Wi-Fi, and additional shooting features, albeit without the weather-sealing, and for that you would need to upgrade to the more expensive E-M5 Mark II.

Damian McGillicuddy:

The OM-D EM10 Mark 2 is an example of Olympus brining “evolution and revolution” to the table yet again. Having had a good amount of hands on time with the new camera, I think it is safe to say that I am rather smitten and that I will be keeping it with me as my “walk around” camera for the foreseeable future. If you are looking for a small camera to travel with that doesn’t compromise on image quality and has a few creative tricks up it’s sleeve the EM10 Mark 2 is definitely worth checking out.

Panasonic LUMIX GH4 VLog L & Firmware 2.4 Update Process

Lumixlounge got an official Panasonic press info with information about the new firmware 2.4 for the GH4 which fixes the V-LOG leak.

Here is the Press Text:

ACTIVATION ISSUES – LUMIX GH4 V-LOG L WITH FIRMWARE V2.3

Many thanks to those who have recently purchased the LUMIX GH4 V-Log L upgrade. We are aware of an oversight in our Panasonic Image App which allows enabling of V-Log L as a “custom” setting without purchase. This was not our intent, and our apologies for the oversight.

We appreciate the many messages of support for the continuing development of innovative new products and features, and Panasonic intends to stand behind your investment in V-Log L and the LUMIX GH4. Therefore, it’s important to know that future LUMIX GH4 firmware upgrades, including mobile app upgrade pushes, will disable unlicensed activations of V-Log L. In addition, it’s Panasonic’s service policy to upgrade firmware during warranty claims, thereby eliminating unlicensed features. Thank you again for your continued support of Panasonic and the LUMIX G camera system and innovations yet to come.

NOTE
A new firmware V2.4 will be available starting Sept 17th. Use of the V-Log L workaround associated with firmware Version 2.3 runs the risk of the Zebra Function not working and the Histogram reading improperly.

Yesterday Panasonic made a huge mistake and with a simple workaround it was possible for anyone to download the V-LOG update for free. But according to Nick Driftwood that version has incorrectly working Zebras & highlights.

JR (video above):Here is part 1 of a 3-part scifi/horror mini series shot on the GH4 with the SLR Magic Anamorphot 1.33x on a Sigma 18-35. The Anamorphot covers the entirety of the Sigma’s rage and remains tack sharp all the way open at f1.8. It worked so well that we ended up shooting 99% of the film with the Sigma/Anamorphot combo. https://youtu.be/5cOycfQFZPM
Parts 2 and 3 will be released on September 17th and 24th, respectively.

New features on the E-M1 firmware 4.0

Olympus Global announced that it will release a new firmware update for the E-M1 and E-M5II by end of November. New features:

New main features added in firmware upgrade

1) Focus Stacking Mode (OM-D E-M1 only)
Focus Stacking Mode let you shoot macro photos that are completely in focus at all depths. A single press of the shutter button captures 8 shots with different focal positions, automatically merging them into a single shot on the camera. Depth of field larger than that of minimum aperture and high resolution without diffraction can be achieved.

2) Focus Bracketing Mode
This function captures up to 999 shots with the focus position for each shot being changed, allowing you to use photo retouching software to merge the images with larger depth of field that cannot be achieved in focus stacking mode (8 shots).

3) S-OVF (Simulated OVF)
S-OVF enables a view that is similar to that of an optical viewfinder.
Exposure compensation and white balance are purposely not shown in S-OVF so that users who are comfortable with the optical viewfinder in DSLR cameras can use the camera in the exact same way.

4) Movie-Exclusive Picture Mode: Flat (OM-D E-M5 Mark II only)
Movie-Exclusive Picture Mode Flat provides beautiful post-editing or grading color by lowering the contrast to minimize highlight blowouts and loss of detail in shadows.

5) Synchronized PCM Audio Rec. with Movie Recording
Functions have been added for shooting movies when connecting [shoplink 55579 ebay]Olympus Linear PCM Recorder LS-100[/shoplink] via USB cable. Slate Tone can be added to make it easier to synchronize the audio and image after recording is complete, and a function for synchronizing the start of audio recording with movie recording on the camera is also available.

6) Enhanced functions on Olympus Capture Version 1.1
You can customize the display of items on the Super Control Panel so that only the required functions are displayed, and you can change the layout for easier access of the most frequently used functions. Direct PC saving is also available and the transfer speed is made faster by saving images directly to a computer without recording to an SD card. Transfer speed is improved up to 4 times faster than before. Tether shooting capabilities are also expanded. Features such as Keystone Compensation are now available to operate via a computer by connecting the camera to a computer.

7) MF Clutch and Snapshot Focus Disable
You can change settings from the menu to disable MF Clutch and Snapshot Focus.

8) Latest firmware for M.Zuiko Pro and Premium lenses
Along with this latest firmware upgrade, latest firmware for the M.Zuiko Pro and Premium lenses will also be released. Aperture drive has been improved for smooth exposure control even when shooting movies in situations with sudden changes in brightness. It also supports for disabling the MF Clutch and Snapshot Focus.
