(FT4) Panasonic to launch a new Leica 12mm lens next week

Next week Panasonic will announce a new entry level G camera and a new lens. Two sources confirmed the new lens will be a 12mm Leica. They did not share any info on the aperture of the lens.

Also Olympus has an announcement soon: New action camera and E-Pl8 are coming for sure. I still don’t know if they will show a 25mm f/1.2 PRO Zuiko prototype on the very same day. The lens will ship this Summer.

Jurek (video above): “A short video using the SLR Magic 2x Anamorphot adapter on the Panasonic 35-100mm G X Vario f/2.8, half recorded internally with V-Log L, half with the Natural profile. The last clip is out of focus (do not adjust your TV….) The lad and I were goofing around playing at camera men when he suddenly jumped up and looked into the camera, a little to closely. I kept the footage because a) it’s funny, b) wanted to check skin tones, and c) wanted to check the facial geometry post de-squeeze. The lens/adapter/combination isn’t perfect, nor does it have “cine” functionality, but there is still a lot to like about it as a sub $2k, 2x anamorphic optic. I like the modern clean look, and having multiple focal lengths on a single optic is very attractive. The +0.3 diopter was used on the small Buddha clip to focus under 2.5 feet. A couple of zoom where manual, the rest done in post (which is which should be quite obvious).”

First review of the new GF8 (a camera most of us cannot buy!)

As you know Panasonic recently announced the new GF8. But the camera is going on sale in Asia and Australia only. And the Australian site Photoreview posted the world’s first review of that camera:

Not surprisingly, both subjective evaluation of test shots and our Imatest testing revealed close similarities with shots from the GF7, GM5, GM1 and GX7, all of which share the same sensor and image processor. We found plenty of detail recorded in images, which were usually sharp and colour accurate, albeit with a slight tendency to emphasise reds and purplish blues.Imatest showed JPEG files showed higher resolution than the GF7 files we reported on.
