Close look: The new Olympus 30mm macro lens

Share

30mm-macro

After having a close look on the 25mm f/1.2 PRO and the 12-100mm PRO lens let’s check out the specs and reviews of the third new Olympus lens. The full intro page with images samples, MTF grpahs and more can be seen at GetOlympus (Click here).

Robin Wong tested the lens and writes:

The lens has high level of sharpness, good contrast, can produce a maximum of 2.5x magnification which is incredible, has improved and reliable Autofocus performance, yet is versatile to be used for general purpose non-macro shooting. The only downside, is the need to go too close to the subject to achieve high magnification, and this is surely not ideal for insect macro if you want to get full 2.5x magnification shots. Olympus 60mm F2.8 Macro is more ideal for that purpose.

Imaging Resource writes:

For starters, it’s amazingly lightweight and compact. With a simple polycarbonate barrel, the lens feels solid and well made, yet without the slightest chance of weighing you down. My biggest hang-up with this lens, right from the get-go is the focal length. It’s too short. Walking around with the lens, I spotted a few bumblebees and a tiny frog. In order to get really close-up photos,I had to physically get the lens very close to the subjects to fill the frame.

Few more image smaples can be seen at Dpreview and Pen3.de.

An interview with YI CEO Sean Da

DIYPhotography posted their full interview with YI CEO Mr. Sean Da. As you know YI just announced their first MFT camera at Phootkina which is going to ship out on Monday at Amazon US (Click here).

I find it very interesting to see what YI’s plans are for the MFT future. It’s good to have a third MFT camera maker on board!

Sigma 30mm f/1.4 MFT lens tested at Dpreview: “consistent performance across the frame for much less price than the competition”

Share

Sigma30mmOMD

Dpreview posted their full Sigma 30mm f/1.4 MFT lens test:

The Sigma ends up coming close or matching the Panasonic 25mm F1.4 ASPH in several parameters, even though it is slightly behind in center sharpness. For a lens that costs less than its competitor, it is a solid performance.

The Sigma can be ordered at Amazon, BHphoto, Adorama, WexUK, Jessops and Calumet Germany.
