The E-M1II is the best OMD camera for Astrophotography and Long exposure shots

Share

Seldom Scene Photography posted two E-MII tests to see how well the new camera performs for Astrophotography and Long Exposure shots:
The Olympus E-M1II and backyard astrophotography
The Olympus E-M1II and long exposures

The bottom line: the E-M5II is much better w.r.t. noise in long exposures than is the E-M1, and the E-M1II is better than both of them. The E-M1II is nearly good enough to not need Noise Reduction — and this, with a 60 second exposure!
Shots under ISO 3200 (4 second exposure) show the Earth’s motion via “smearing” of the star images, but there’s not much sensor noise in those frames. As you can see, sensor noise really starts picking up around ISO 3200, but ISO 6400 at least should be usable with post-processing. Not perfect, but quite an improvement from past OM-D bodies!

Olympus E-M1II store links:
In USA at BHphoto, Amazon, GetOlympus and Adorama.
In Europe at ParkCameras. WexUK. Digitech.ch.

There are many user tests and reviews posted on our E-M1II Facebook page (Click here).

Wayne:I thought I’d share my EM1 mkii experience with you as the camera IS seemed to help with a moving camera on a tripod during a 25 second exposure the other day. I’ve never had this with any other camera; it’s simply nuts how good the IBIS is…

First in-depth review of the new Laowa 7.5mm f/2 by 3Dkraft: “surprised how well it performed”

Share

3Dkraft (Click here) posted the First in-depth review of the new Laowa 7.5mm f/2.0 MFT lens:

This is one more lens demonstrating the skills of the designers and engineers at Venus Optics putting so extreme features in such a little housing. The lens seems to be build very solid and the focus and aperture ring operate very smooth. The optical performance is not perfect at open aperture as you can see some coma, some CA and vignetting and a bit decreasing resolution in the edges but for that size and weight I am really surprised how well it performed. Stopped down to f/5.6 or f/8 the lens is also a good choice for architecture and landscape. For drone applications I whish they could make it even lighter – e.g. with a special edition in a plastic housing – as for example the gimbals of DJI’s micro Four Thirds cameras currently can balance and stabilize only lenses up to 158g.

The lens is yet not available for preorder. But It will start shiopping soemtimes in early 2017.
