Last year the well-known 43rumors commenter Simon said this about the new Olympus sensor designed for the E-M1II :

Olympus will NOT join the megapix. race. the new sensor will have 18 MP & a new “foil” on the sensor, they call it geomembrane (whatever this means), but the EM-DR (code name for E-M1II) will have a 10 step hires modus to make such fotos with 1/60 sec. out of hand. Great !!!

While Simon has yet to prove to be a reliable source I am wondering…what if the rumor is correct? Would you jump off the chair for happiness? :)

Panasonic will have a press conference at the IFA Berlin tomorrow (August 31) at 15:00 Berlin time. The IFA is not a specific photo event and there may be only some “general” new electronic product announcements.

The Indonesian public agency Sertifikasi registered a new “E-M1” Olympus camera for the commercialization on the Chinese market. This means the new camera is set to ship within 1-2 months. Note that this isn’t the already available E-M1 as this one got registered three years ago. This is the new mark II camera!

This is what we know so far about the E-M1II:

Much improved autofocus performance

It has no global shutter. But Olympus worked hard to reduce rolling shutter to a negligible level

It was never a real competition for the Micro Four Thirds system. And the news is that Nikon quietly did discontinue the system. It’s now completely unclear if Nikon will launch another mirrorless system with larger APS-C or FF sensor.

At last things are starting to get exciting around the new GH5! As reported yesterday the camera will be sort of “pre-announced” at Photokina and ship in very early 2017 (probably January).

And now we got a first spec info from a trusted source:

1) The camera has no crop for 4K
2) 4:2:2 10 bits internal recording!!!!

That’s a HUGE news for filmmakers! Take that new Canon 5DmarkIV ;)

Panasonic has a press conference on September 19 where they will announce the new G80 (or G85 or whatever the final name will be), a new LX100 successor and show the GH5 prototype.

Two sources shared some info about the new Panasonic GH5. They both said that there will be no “full” GH5 announcement at Photokina. This means there will be no full specs, pricing and shipment info of the camera. They are yet not sure but this could mean Panasonic will display a camera prototype with some “general” specs info instead.

And I can confirm the GH5 will ship in very early 2017! I should get first specs soon…stay tuned!

UPDATE: The LX100 successor shoudl be announced on September 19 along the new G80 Micro Foru Thirds camera.

So far the very unconfirmed specs are:

1. It will have the same sensor of the GX80 GX85.
2. But it will not have the same processor as the future GH5.
3. Rear screen will be like the GX80: Articulated and tactile.
