(FT4) GH4 firmware upgrade will add gamma log! (And Dave Dugdale leaves Canon for the GH4).

GH4 Review by Dave Dugdale

According to a very good source Panasonic will release a firmware update which adds Gamma Log on the GH4. The source didnt tell me when exactly the fw will be announced.

And we have to welcome Dave Dugdale who just sold his Canon stuff to join the MFT world because of the GH4. Just watch his 45minutes GH4 review I embedded on top or read his review at Learningdslrvideo to learn why he switched to MFT!

New 15mm f/1.7 lens review at ePhotozine: “It’s worthy of the Leica name”.

ePhotozine (Click here) posted the full Leica 15mm f/1.7 lens review and writes:

The Leica name is like a seal of quality for Panasonic’s Micro Four thirds lenses, and this lens lives up to the reputation in many ways. One surprising way that it doesn’t is with the price. Yes, it may be more expensive than the closest equivalent lenses, but it’s not the kind of price that would have your bank manager asking questions.

The lens gets “reocmmended” with 4/5 stars.

Small surprise: GH4 seems to focus slower in 4K recording mode (while it’s damn fast at 1080).

Our friend Frederick compared the GH4 and GH4 AF performance and discovered an interesting drawback of the GH4 in 4K mode:

I have tested the autofocus performance of the GH4 with the GH3 during video recording. This demanding test shows that the GH4 indeed does improve upon the GH3 in 1080p mode. In 4K mode, though, the autofocus is rather poor.
http://m43photo.blogspot.com/2014/05/recent-micro-four-thirds-cameras-have.html
I tested using both the 12-35mm and 35-100mm f/2.8 lenses.

It’s the first time I hear about that “drawback”. Hope other readers will test this too and confirm (or not confirm) the slower af in 4k mode!

Panasonic 12-32mm review at Photozone: Congrats for the size, but performance is just average.

Photozone (Click here) tested the tiniest of all large sensor zoom lenses and writes:

We certainly congratulate Panasonic for having created this tiny wonder and along with his in-house cousin it is obvious choice when size and weight really matter. However, if you are after a high performance lens you should look towards the Olympus M.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8 ED Pro or Panasonic Lumix G 12-35mm f/2.8 ASPH Power O.I.S. instead.

The lens gets a 2,5 out of 5 average score. Note that Photozone is a very sever website and doesn’t share high scores easily! I do own the lens and it does exactly what I needs. Take good quality pictures while keeping the overall GM1+lens size down. Or do you really want to use a Large Olympus 12-40mm on it? :)
